Anti-gay group plans protest at funeralThe way I view it, they have the same rights of anyone to protest if they are lawfully assembled, unfortunately, Ill have to make sure their rights are respected. It kind of makes me sick

I am a vehement opponent of the homosexual agenda, but this kind of behavior is just disgusting.
Moreover, a fallen soldier deserves respect, not this asinine circus.
The Phelps family needs help. Those poor children.

Just because it's legal does not mean that it is not crass.

I figure one of these days they'll be "protesting" and a relative of the honored will take a few shots at them.

It kind of makes me sick Ripon Police Chief Dave Lukoski Hard as it is, sometimes the best thing is to let loathsome persons have the spotlight. Their views are coming from an obvious place of hate, and that is obvious. Compassion in response, rather than reciprocated hatred is what "cures" this sort of thing...

WBC and gays both have an equal right to protest. So do the KKK and the NAACP.

These sound like leftists making fun of the conservatives by portraying them as extremists. Who knows what really is in their minds or why they're doing this.

Why is it I smell a rat here?... I am as anti-homosexual as you could find and I know some people just like me, and I would never do that... and I can't think of anyone who would that. If nothing else is bad PR, and you don't have to be genius to see that.

I think its an appalling lack of respect to the dead. A dead person's sins are between them and God. No one has any business judging a person's private life - whatever their sins are as long as it remains private.

The protesters were part of the anti-gay homosexuals organization, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), which believes God is punishing America for supporting homosexuality Apparently this church skipped the part about he who is without sin may cast the first stone.
Or maybe they are just sinless /sarc.
Homosexuality is nasty and plain dishonest to oneself. Basically defies the love yourself part of loving your neighbor.
Given this church's logic, Europe should be flattened by now the way many there embrace homosexuality.

I wonder if there is any chance that these people are like seminar callers. "I have been a Republican for many years, however ..."
These people seem intent on turning people off of Christianity. And probably have convinced some people that homosexuals are unduly persecuted and perhaps deserving of support.
Myself, I support Christ, I oppose homosexuals, I support the war, and I feel sorry for crazy people like those feaured in this article.

God Hates Fags? I understand that God hates sin, But I also understand that God loves the sinner and sent his son to die for us (sinners.)
I also understand that god hates pride, and there are scriptures that imply that god used homosexuality as a punishment against the proud, but to say that God hates fags, well that is a little over the top.

Why should a private funeral be a protected free-speech forum? Shame on those Phelpses! Leave the dead to God and their families to their grief in private.

Those f***ers were within driving distance and I didn't have a chance to meet them with some tar and feathers. DAMN, that pisses me off.

After reading the article several times, I see that these people can be called the Christian Taliban with complete accuracy. Now we have a home-grown variety of the Islamo-fascist vermin. My son is in the unit mentioned and I can assure all that I would take it very personally if I would be unfortunate enough to encounter any of these rats eyeball to eyeball.

That story made my teeth grind with rage. That boy died in service of our nation, and i think those protestors need a real smack-down.
Gods help us all if nutjobs like them ever gain any real power to use the state as their instument to force their will on everyone else.
Personally, I don't care what people do in private - just don't try to force it on me or mine.

Why is it I smell a rat here?... I am as anti-homosexual as you could find and I know some people just like me, and I would never do that... Because they're rats. Westboro Baptist has been around for awhile, you can find their website on your own, they brag about their exploits. Picketing funerals is now on their agenda, after all, Americans attend and "picket" these funerals with American flags, why not the anti-gay, anti-war Westboro folks. They're disgusting.
