Court issues warrant for DeLay, sets bail:

AP By William L. Watts

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and set his bail at $10,000 in a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges, the Associated Press reported. The issuance of the warrant is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin told the A.P. The lawyer said DeLay would make his first court appearance Friday morning. DeLay, who remains a member of Congress, relinquished his leadership post last month after being indicted on a charge of conspiring to violate state campaign finance laws. DeLay contends the charges are politically motivated and that he will be vindicated at trial.

the money-laundering charges would be a felony offense.

This is a scam to get Tom Delay.
Hillary Clinton did Worse than this in Her last campaign.
It is just that Republicans dont crawl into the gutter like Democrats do.
It should be no supprise that Texas Democrat Trash would sink to this..Texas brings out the Best in good people, and the worst in Democrats.

I believe it is time for a tax audit on the judge and the prosecutor. It worked for the Clinton's, it ought to work for Delay.

But that is the totality of the charges.

The changes themselves are politically motivated.

Sometimes a figure (person, character) goes through a personal trial but in the end they become more powerful. Figures such as Azlan (Narnia), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) come to mind.

uh.. both of your example individuals are fictional characters

Vindicate this innocent man, O Lord, and set his enemies to confusion. Shine Your light of truth upon this whole situation. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

In that case, can't DeLay's lawyer petition for a neutral judge?

Sorry but what is a "neutral judge?" In Texas all judges are elected so every one of them is a Republican or a Democrat.

Any legal way to demand that the judge be forced to recuse himself since his political affiliation could be viewed as prejudicial?

I note you live in Texas. Has it occurred to you that we elect our judges and everyone of them has a political affiliation?

Could this hurt his reelection chances (if he plans to run again)?

I do not think Congressman DeLay can be beaten in the Texas 22nd. Ft Bend is the most educated county in the state and will see through this.

When you talk to your dad, see what he thinks about the fact that the Ft Bend Sheriff can't stand the Congressman.

"His mugshot is going to plastered all over the MSM."

The more harassment he has to endure, the more the conservatives will rally behind him. We all know this is unfair and should be illegal in every state. This witch hunt may change laws. He will receive so many donations, he may very well be the politician with the fullest war chest. I know I will donate. And, being from NC this will be my first time to donate to an out of state congressman.

Felony and breach of the peace is pretty all-encompassing. It would include all felonies and probably a good number of misdemeanors. The only real protection afforded to Senators and Representatives by the Arrest Clause is against "civil arrest," fairly common in the 18th Century, in which a person could arrest someone he sued to make sure he would appear at the civil trial.

Don't kid yourself with the "all out war" if Delay goes down. If he does, the Rats will have neutered the only Pubbie with any balls. The rest of them will be cringing under their chairs worrying how it will effect their next election -- and it won't matter one bit if he gets railroaded, the response will be the same.

Hi, HC...yes, the judgeships are the only time I vote "D" if I know the "R" is no good.

It just seems that with Earle's obvious push to get DeLay, the timing, and the sloppy way he is going about it, DeGuerin should at least be able to petition for a judge that doesn't contribute to moveon.org.

But, not knowing that much about it (obviously!), is that even an option available to DeGuerin?

What needs to be done imo is change the process and take this power away from the Travis County DA and place it in the hands of the State AG.

Has the State AG commented on this case? Greg Abbott, right?

I see the day when there may be civil war in America....the chasm between the right and left keeps growing by the day.

This is just one more example of the liberals using the "System" against us.

"What is a neutral judge"? Someone, R or D, who did not contribute to such a RADICAL organization like Moveon.org???
