What is the Difference Between Conservatives and White Nationalists?
October 19, 2005 | ComtedeMaistre

Posted on 10/19/2005 6:05:00 AM PDT by ComtedeMaistre

A Political Science Professor at the University of Maryland, Prof. Ronald Walters, recently published a book suggesting that American conservatism is heavily influenced by what he calls "White Nationalism": http://wsupress.wayne.edu/africana/afrlabor/walterswn.htm

The Professor is reputed to be a leftist, and he doesn't like conservatives. But how does one explain the influence that some White nationalists such as Pat Buchanan, Peter Brimelow, Jared Taylor and the late Sam Francis have had on the conservative movement?

Both conservatives and white nationalists want to preserve Western civilization. But White Nationalists argue that Western civilization cannot exist without whites. Do most conservatives really believe that race is irrelevant in the preservation of Western civilization?

UM is inside the beltway. Politics inside it are very racially tinged. You might want to recall Paul Simon's trip to Howard University where he was lambasted for 'stealing' african music.

Some of these morons should spend some time in Africa and see if they are African or American. I do believe that most would come back here screaming and kiss the ground.

One thing I've always wanted to ask white nationalists is what they consider white? In their view, are Italians, Slovenians, Hungarians, etc. conisdered white?
Further, conservativism and white nationalism don't mesh. A white nationalist would probably be more willing to vote for Hillary Clinton than Condoleeza Rice. It's white above all else for those folks.
PS: If it were possible, I'd take out a life insurance policy on this thread with me as the beneficiary. Locking in 5, 4, 3, 2.....

I prefer Martin Luther King's color blind merit-based society to a society where people are assigned to racial classifications and treated accordingly.

What's wrong with Nationalism? Its the racism, and socialism parts to which I object. (Nazi = National Socialist German Workers Party)

1. Invent a negative term.
2. Define it so that SOME of the group you hate MIGHT be included.
3. Smear the whole group you hate.

The "professor" is a racist. That about sums up the issue here.

People like this go to any extreme necessary to write about THEIR perceived woes about "white people."

This is yet another example of that, of someone's racism about "white people" just being tweaked and pushed and pulled into some permutation that is probably expected to rail up more animosity about "white people."

There is so much racism in our world and from what I read about it, nearly all of it is from other races about "white people." They accuse "white people" of every sort of fearful state of mind that THEY imagine "white people" will have. It's racism.

I would classify neither Pat Buchanan nor Peter Brimelow as white nationalists. Strong opposition to immigration hardly makes one a white nationalist. It is likely that a majority of blacks and even many second and greater generation Americans of Hispanic background favor strong restrictions on immigration and better control over the borders. Furthermore, Brimelow is an immigrant from England.

Jared Taylor and Sam Francis might fairly be considered white nationalists. However, both men could hardly be regarded as mainstream paleo-conservatives, if you define paleo-conservatism as the continuation of the anti-New Deal forces and the post-World War II conservative movement, best represented by politicians like Barry Goldwater and Robert Taft and intellectuals like Russell Kirk and Frank Meyer. Taylor and Francis belong to the neo-Confederate and white separatist camps. Their political lineage derives from the Southern Agrarians of the 1930s and the Citizens' Councils opposition to racial integration in the post-World War II era.

A typical liberal ploy is to claim that principal true conservatism in the American sense, e.g., strict construction of the Constitution, natural (God-given) rights, limited government, states' rights, free market economics, and respect for Biblical and traditional moral values, are really rooted in white supremacism. It is unreasonable and even outrageous, but it is proof that the "Big Lie" can be effective.

The bigger question is...

Why are you bringing up a book review from 2003?

This topic has been debated before, and if my recollection is correct, everyone who has posted it had an agenda and was banned!!!

Please point out which group this is? Besides, Buchanan, the people you have listed have had little effect at all. However, rascist groups on the left, such as La Raza ("the race") are trying to be mainstreamed by the left.

Who are "they" who you allege "hate the Jews, Blacks, and everybody not Christian"?

There are many Jews and Blacks who hate Christians. There are many Blacks who hate Jews. The founder of adult pornography as an industry was Jewish. And hated Christianity and Christians (wrote a lot about it).

There are white people who hate, there are brown people who hate, there are black people who hate. I believe Farrakhan and followers hate "white people" and refer to many of us as "devils." So do many (other) Muslims. there are Asians who hate other Asians, there are Asians who hate Blacks (a strong sentiment in Japan).

But not all of each does all of that.

Something to consider, in the vast sense of raging about pigmentation, is that just as "blacks" and "browns" of all nationalities, and "yellows" (Asians, in all due respect), so do Europeans and other Caucasians and Indo Europeans all ("white people") regard their own kind to a degree and enjoy their ancestors and stories and customs.

Unfortunately, when "white people" get together and do the polka and drink beer and wear liederhosen and drive Volkswagens and MBZs, other races call that "hostility and facism" when all it is generally is Octoberfest (celebrating the harvest and the completion of the summer's hard work in traditional Bavarian culture).

I think it's a case of perspective here. "White people" celebrating their own kind and enjoying their own cultures and customs is not a bad thing and doesn't represent a political statement in general. A lot of it is just cultural enjoyment.

Are there Black Nationalists? If so, can that group be defined? And whom is in that group?

I think the prof. has at least two problems. He doesn't like the idea of nationalism, as the very existence of that idea runs contrary to the liberal deconstructionist mind as the liberals can never get their way (communism) unless the free and democratic western culture is destroyed first, and, because he is a racist and the nationalists are white.

I think the NAACP is the most racist organization to date.

If you want to see racism in action watch two minutes of BET.

I would require evidence that Buchanan is a 'White Nationalist', and I've never even heard of any of these other guys.

I completely do not understand where you are coming from in those comments.

For starters, you have a user I.D. that denotes racial qualities so I'm thinking you have issues related to such.

If I'm wrong about that, I'm willing to listen. However, from what I read and as recent as yesterday read (before this article), people of "races other than 'white'" write these alleged, presumed states of mind that they allege "white people" think, feel, will conclude, have concluded -- just generally a lot of imaginings from their own cultural perspectives about "white people" that mostly I (as a "white person") have never experienced nor would ever conclude...and yet I read where "white people think this and that, etc." and then I read that the signer is someone who identifies as another race.

It's a case of people projecting their own fears and their OWN PREJUDICE onto others. It's just become more culturally emboldened lately for some races to do that where "white people" are concerned but it still is nonsense, and, actually, I think it indicates a lower level of self awareness when people make those sort of drastic projections of their own references onto others...just as this article author does.
