(Charleston-AP) October 18, 2005 -
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston and Bishop England High School have broken ties to Saturday's Race for the Cure.
They made the decision because the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation gives money to Planned Parenthood in other cities.
The race is expected to attract about six thousand people in Charleston this year.
Race organizers say some students from the Bishop England High School will participate on their own, but will no longer receive community service credit for their efforts.
Proceeds from the race are required to go toward breast cancer screenings for poor women. But Komen affiliates in other parts of the country give money to Planned Parenthood chapters.
Planned Parenthood also provides abortion services.

But no, I would not personally write a check to the church of Scientology but I also would not wage war against another charity that gave money to the church to provide food for the hungry or some other specific job I approved of.
I would. Planned Barrenhood is a wicked organization that needs to be utterly defunded and subject to general public outrage. In a sane society, they would be parriahs along the lines of the KKK an NAMBLA. There are plenty of good charities out there that do not support baby-killing. Why not direct your money there, rather than to any group which supports PP in any way?

Did you call St. Vincent's and ask them if they want funding from a pro-abortion group
OR are you taking it upon yourself to speak for the hospital?

BTW, this list of charities that give money to planned parenthood to support specific non-abortion services is long and includes major charities... if we were going to try to be consistent and boycott them all it will be a significant effort... like the Red Cross and the united Way.

Some people in the pro-life movement want a cultural war dividing and weakening America into two hostile camps Too late for that; it's an accomplished fact already. We didn't start the war; the other side did. Let them stop their social engineering by judicial fiat and start putting it up to the people and their elected representatives. Until then, it's a war for the soul of this country.
It would also mean boycotting all the largest American corporations
You mean like I go out of my way not to do business with AT&T and Disney? Yes, that's right. And then there's the fact that I don't contribute a dime to my college alma mater, because of their anti-Catholic, anti-life, and anti-chastity POV. If they want my money, they need to stop supporting an agenda I hate.
The war is already here.

It's not just AT&T Disney. Pretty much every Fortune 500 and every branch of military, the Secret service every to 50 charity supports directly or indirectly either Girls Clubs or Planned Parenthood - are we going to boycott corporate America? Are we going to go after the military?
That would make us just like the far, far left.
It's much better for us to concentrate on doing positive things instead of attacking like that.
If we just pick a couple of small targets like the breast cancer people and American girl we are really just sticking our heads in the sand.

Kudos to Bishop Baker yet again!
Remember Bishop Baker was one of the bishops that signed the letter saying Catholic politicians should not take Communion if they are pro-abortion.

That's one of the reasons why I only give to Catholic/Christian charities that I am certain do not fund abortion. I've never given a dime to Red Cross or UW. Never.

That's true. And it's exactly for this reason that there is an opening in the market for companies who DO NOT support this agenda to make some major headway. For example, my long distance provider is
Sienna. They were able to win me as a customer because I read an ad where they pointed out that, unlike AT&T and MCI, they don't give money to Planned Barrenhood, nor do they sponsor pornography.
Why Sienna?
Plus, their rates are very competiive. I encourage all Freepers to check them out.

Considering the sheer number of your posts and the seeming enthusiasm of your defense of an org that donates money to Margaret Sanger's pro-sterility legacy, I'm forced to wonder if you are pro-abortion yourself? Well? Do you always make personal attacks when you can't fight the truth?

I have seen no truth in your posts.
BTW, asking someone to reveal their position on an issue is not a personal attack. So I'll ask you again:
Are you pro-abortion? Do you think that a woman has a right to kill her unborn child in the womb?

I made no opinions therefore my opinion is irrelevant. The posts stand on their own. But of course you can't attack the posts because they are true.

Sure they do. And based on my own knowledge of medical, scientific, and social science research, I know what happens when a political football is the bone of contention. One side produces its "proof" and the other side produces its "proof." Somewhere in there is the truth.
The only honest-to-goodness fact that I can tease out of this debate at this point is that something is causing rates of breast cancer to rise dramatically within the same time period that abortion and contraception became the common.
The fact that you can't answer a simple question about your position on abortion, but instead resort to playing the victim tells me all I need to know about you.

You say the answer is somewhere inbetween but you chastise anyone that posts the 'other side'. Without both sides, you never get to the middle. You make no sense.

Smoking? Nah - that isn't on the list of risks. Probably some left-wing pro-abortion plot to keep smoking off the list.

What would it add? Nothing. You are just trying to imploy rule #5 in the American communist play book.

Stop being such a whiny victim. I readily admit that I am pro-life in the interests of full disclosure. Why is full disclosure so hard for you?
Love the transference regarding the "communist" accusation, though. It was a common commie tactic to take strong public positions on an issue and pretend you were just an average citizen. Above all, you were *not* to admit that you were a member of the communist party. Remember that one? Sound familiar?
I'll ask you again: Do you believe that a woman has a constitutional right to kill her child in the womb?
