WASHINGTON (AP) - Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff promised Tuesday to end the ``catch and release'' policy that has allowed tens of thousands of non-Mexican illegal aliens to disappear within the United States.
``Return every single illegal entrant - no exceptions,'' Chertoff said in prepared testimony to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on proposals to overhaul the immigration system.
Chertoff was joined by Labor Secretary Elaine Chao in presenting administration views on the illegal immigrant problem. He said President Bush remains committed to a comprehensive approach including gaining control of the border, enforcing workplace laws and establishing a temporary worker program.

I guess it's still too early to give ourselves a pat on the back?
I'll believe it when I see it.
Return every single illegal entrant - no exceptions,
To which Chertoff belongs, as does Dubya.
If they'd do their sworn duty (to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution) they wouldn't be needing to testify to Congress.
Cheers!
there is a murder trial going on in Oceanside, CA right now that could have been avoided by a deportation at some point.
There are cases every day in the SD paper that involve an illegal who was not deported.
I will not vote for another Republican until the policy ends.
What did he say about the ones already here? Or the ones who get here without being caught?
Has the Us Immigration service been relieved of their duties?
Homeland Security? What's that?
Bush has no time whatsoever for 'trial balloons".
The company I work for uses a temporary labor service when extra hands are needed. We depend on that service to do the paper work checks. The fact that they get paid on head count would not entice any of them to cheat I am sure./sarc
1-Gain control of the border, 2-enforce the workplace laws, 3-send the illegal aliens back before the guest worker program begins, 4-THEN we'll talk about a guest worker program.
I'd settle for any 3 of the 4 but prefer to have all 4.
Dream on. No "pat on the back" -- c'mon.
The third Bush "point" of his policy is to..................
"establishing a temporary worker program."
This is BS for "allowing a red carpet at the border to have milions of illegal aliens invade or nation (invade our national treasury is what they are doing).
Bush is pulling another Harriet Miers by assuming we are a bunch of idiots. You do NOT "enforce border security" while at the same time allow illegal aliens to enter this nation's border under the guise of "temporary worker".
Anybody else tired of this BS out of the White House? Considering the revolt going on in Republican ranks over Miers, a lot of my fellpw conservatives have had it with the BS.
I'll believe it when I see it.
You speak for MILLIONS FRiend..............
Many of these news reports aren't telling the whole truth, especially the AFP article linked by Drudge.

Just curious... Why now and not the last 5 yrs?
Couldn't have anything to do w/ the disgruntled conservative base, could it?
I bet all of the hate Bush folks will soon be here to trounce on this instead of throwing support behind the administration. Oh wait nevermind they already are.
I think ending "catch and release", by our govt. which coudn't care less about our borders, means just stop catching them. BS... BS...BS...
Just saying this discourages some who were about to make the jump. We need more simple threats for starters. Assuming our dear leader Fox will permit this.
start with the illegals from Manitoba. (ha)
