We are quickly approaching the 21st Century and we were wondering, and when I say 'we', I mean others of us out there who wonder if everyone else out there knows what the significance of the year 2007 is to Black America?
Did you know that our right to VOTE will expire in the year 2007? Seriously! The Voters Rights Act signed in 1965 by Lyndon B. Johnson was just an ACT. It was not made a law.
In 1982, Ronald Reagan amended the Voters Rights Act for another 25 years. Which means that in the year 2007 we could lose the Right to vote!
Does anyone realize that African Americans are the only group of people who require PERMISSION under the United States Constitution to vote! In the year 2007, Congress will once again convene to decide whether or not Blacks should retain the rights to vote (crazy but true).
In order for this to be passed, 38 states will have to approve an extension. This is ludicrous! Not only should the extension be approved, but also the ACT must be made a law. Our right to vote should no longer be up for discussion, review and/or evaluation.
We must contact our Congress-persons, Senators, Alderpersons, etc., to put a stop to this! As bona fide Citizens of the United States, we cannot "drop the ball" on this one! We have come too far to let government make us take such a huge step backward. So please, let us push forward to continue to build the momentum towards gaining equality.
Please pass this onto others, as we are sure that many more individuals are not aware of this. I urge all of you that are able, to contact those in government that have your vote and make them aware of our combined concern for this issue.
One voice!...... One Vote! You cannot complain, if you do not participate.....local, State, & national..
Don't know if this is true or not but if it is, this is really bad news for the Dems!
Crazy and false.
Read the Constitution.
Is it true that . . . The Voting Rights Act of 1965 will expire in 2007 and African Americans and other ethnic minorities will lose the right to vote?
The answer is no. Congress passed the Voting Rights Act in 1965 in response to widespread evidence of disfranchisement of black citizens in several southern states. The Act protects citizens' right to vote primarily by forbidding covered states from using tests of any kind (like literacy tests) to determine eligibility to vote, by requiring these states to obtain federal approval before enacting any election laws, and by assigning federal officials to monitor the registration process in certain localities. Congress has amended the Act several times since 1965 to include other ethnic groups under its coverage.
The facts: The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a permanent law, but there are certain provisions in it that are temporary and scheduled to expire in 2007 (mostly those provisions requiring federal examiners and federal election observers). These expiring provisions will not result in the loss of the right to vote--that right is guaranteed by the 15th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

This lark has been making the rounds amongst the "civil rights" hustlers for a number of years. There is absolutely no truth to any of this garbage.
Google may be our friend, but how many sheeple do you think got this email and took it at face value? This is the Dems already lining up for 2008 fraud...
Snopes can be your friend.

Amendment XV
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
Apparently Ms. Cosby has never read a law bill before and so doesn't know that EVERY law is an "act".
As always, thanks to all FReepers who responded. i knew i could get an honest here!
I hope I'm not being uncharitable, but she's come out with some pretty weird statements since her son Ennis was murdered several years ago. As I remember it, he was killed by a would-be thief as he changed a car tire at night on a freeway. His murderer wasn't black (I don't remember his exact race), and it appeared to be just one of those tragic in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time killings.
Since then, though, Mrs. Cosby appears to have decided that all black people are at risk from all white people. It must make it difficult for her husband, whose speeches focus on the need for black Americans to take responsibility for their lives and actions.
(Denny Crane: "I like nature. Don't talk to me about the environment".)
Ennis Cosby was murdered by a Russian immigrant.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that we crackers intend to disenfranchise the black man so we can keep him down. Halliburton rules!
Uh... Denise...
This is for the mining of e-mail addresses. The originator sends it to a few known e-,mail addresses and asks everyone to forward to everyone else in their address book. Eventually, it will get back to the originator, and be loaded with a huge number of valid e-mail addresses that can then be spammed with ads for viagra and online gambling.
It really beats the alternative of trying every single possible letter/numeral/special character combination @yahoo.com or @aol.com. A high percentage would be returned undeliverable, and it might draw attention to a spam operation.
