ASSIMILATION AND ITS MEANING. The End of Gay Culture Andrew Sullivan
For ... two decades, I have spent much of every summer in the small resort of Provincetown, at the tip of CapeCod. It has long attracted artists, writers, the offbeat, and the bohemian; and, for many years now, it has been to gay America what Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard is to black America: a place where a separate identity essentially defines a separate place. No one bats an eye if two men walk down the street holding hands, or if a lesbian couple pecks each other on the cheek, or if a drag queen dressed as Cher careens down the main strip on a motor scooter. It's a place, in that respect, that is sui-generis. Except that it isn't anymore. As gay America has changed, so, too, has Provincetown. In a microcosm of what is happening across this country, its culture is changing.
Some of these changes are obvious. A real-estate boom has made Provincetown far more expensive than it ever was, slowly excluding poorer and younger visitors and residents. Where, once, gayness trumped class, now the reverse is true. Beautiful, renovated houses are slowly outnumbering beach shacks, once crammed with twenty-something, hand-to-mouth misfits or artists. The role of lesbians in the town's civic and cultural life has grown dramatically, as it has in the broader gay world. The faces of people dying from or struggling with aids have dwindled to an unlucky few. The number of children of gay couples has soared, and, some weeks, strollers clog the sidewalks. Bar life is not nearly as central to socializing as it once was. Men and women gather on the beach, drink coffee on the front porch of a store, or meet at the Film Festival or Spiritus Pizza.

Bump to post 7.
If you aren't aware of what "gay" activists are doing in schools, do a FR search on GLSEN. They your "I don't care, I'm tolerant" attitude might change. I used to be tolerant and live and let live, too. Until I started reading and educating myself about what the homosexual agenda really wants, and now - how much has been accomplished! I don't know if you have children in school, or plan to. But you owe it to yourself to read and educate yourself too.
I'd dig up some links but I'm sneaking on to FR for a minute and don't have the time....
(nudge hint 0 if one of you two stalwarts could put up a link or two I'd be much obliged!)
It struck me as funny yesterday when one the Million Moron speakers called for uniting 40 million black people to form a black political party. It's ludicrous to think that even 50% of black people have anything in common with the people on that stage yesterday -- other than the melanin content of their skin.
Unfortunately, most of that information is unavailable at this time. Once we get other things up and running we'll have access to it again.
I don't like the black panthers or the radical black agenda. It doesn't change my live and let live toward blacks. I really really don't like many groups radical agendas. I don't like radical women agendas,,doesn't make me dislike women or tolerate them less. I don't like Nazis but so far haven't had trouble tolerating Germans and people with very short hair or tatoos. And tatoos,,I can't stand gang members with tatoos all over them but don't assume that a tatoo means the person is a gang member.
I think it's commonly called gentrification...even happens to gay funky areas.
You're trying to compare not apples and oranges, but apples and cement blocks. Homosexuals are defined solely by their method of sexual gratification and attraction, whereas race is a neutral and benign unchangeable condition.
The "gay" agenda is real and is also approved of and promoted not only by many homosexuals themselves but by Democrats and associated leftists. They ARE promoting the homosexual agenda in schools, encouraging high school and middle school children to try same sex practices.
This is unacceptable. Tolerance means not bothering about what people do behind closed doors. But the homosexual agenda is not about tolerance, it's about advocacy and indoctrinating children and young people, and that is not acceptable.
Another important point (explained very clearly in the links posted in comment 7) is that homosexuals can change. No one is "born gay", and there are tens of thousands of former homosexuals who have left the dangerous and unhealthy "gay" life.
This is not a topic that is going to be discussed by me with you.
Some might call that "culture;" I don't -- except in the petrie-dish sense of the word.
In a saner age, the word "culture," meant Mozart, Da Vinci, Falkner -- artistic and intellectual excellence, the best and most cerebrally challenging of human endeavors. Now, "culture" means men groping each other in bars and baths?
When Rome fell, were the goths and vandals who tramped around its ruins part of a "culture," or were they an assemblage of barbarians? I say the latter.
Do you think it is a good idea to teach middle school and grade school children that "gay is good"?
BTW, if you comment on topics on a thread, it's natural to assume that you won't mind discussing the topic.
Actually, there are many other places on the Cape more scenic. He spends his summer there............what madcap fun that must be!!
I agree. Unfortunately however, it is the loud, angry subset that makes our lives miserable and comes after our children. The ones that hang out in front of schools, show up as characters on every other tv show, yell loudly about getting fired for being gay when that probably wasn't this issue at all, and parade around in leather chaps and fairy wings.
Those are the people I have issues with. The "AGENDA" people.
The sad part is they make life just as miserable for the people content to live and let live in the gay community. Perhaps it is time for prominent gays to get the chip off their shoulder and speak up against the tactics of the radicals.
The homo lifestyle has entrenched itself so deeply in America, you will see lawful homo sex in the street before you see and recall of current homo policies.
Will and Grace is one of the top sitcoms on TV...what the heck does that tell you??
All I know is if one of these freaks approach one of my kids, the aftermath will be front page news...
Sorry...I did not intend to defame an entire group (or two, or three including cowboys/girls) of people with that comment.
I just have an unfortunate vision of an ugly remnant of the Village People in my head. Stupid gay pride parades. They ruin everything.

Free Republic is not quite as tolerant the discussion area as you might think? What Free Republic is all about:

Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.
Take it from this intolerant heteronormative hompohobe -There ARE some things that are justly discriminated against -homosexuality as a disorder (abnormal) is one of these things -really, the only thing normal about homosexuals is the fact that they are human beings created in God's image -as such deserving of respect and dignity because they are human and in spite of the fact that they are disordered and predisposed to intrinsically disordered and objectively abnormal activities.
However human individuals may inherently be, disordered activities are always unacceptable and not tolerated.... The same applies to those that actively promote and suggest the homosexual disorder and or the activities are normal -they too merit just discrimination and deserve no special soap box in society to promulgate their garbage. Intrinsically disordered sexual acrobatics does not warrant minority status or exclusion to promote that which is illegitimate...
So,,,what is your point?
I think that the line is currently drawn not at expressions in public so much as embracement of the lifestyle. Since Christians cannot accept Homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle, their position is that they believe it is wrong to harass homosexuals, but do not want to accept their lifestyle as the "norm."
Speaking as a nonreligious heterosexual man who was, at one point, fairly supportive of Gay civil rights, I think the problem is that gay have overestimated just how much they are accepted in middle America and have, as a matter of fact, confused "tolerance" with "acceptance."
When it comes to Gay activists, the love that "dare not speak its name" truly has become "the love that doesn't shut up."
Exactly what I posted...
The second law of homosexuality:
To the mentally healthy (heterosexual), sex is something you do;
To the mentally diseased ('homosexual'), sex is everything you are.
