Residents to march for black issues in D.C.

About 150 Greenville residents loaded buses at C.M. Eppes recreation center Friday night to participate in today's Millions More Movement in Washington, D.C.
Inspired by the Rev. Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, today's event on Capitol Hil is expected to include appearances by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton and representatives from the NAACP, SCLC, the National Council for Negro Women and numerous other leaders in the areas of religion education and entertainment.
Billed as commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March and an effort to address the continuing problems of economic disparity, discrimination and unity among blacks, the event represents a historic moment to many of the D.C.-bound travelers.
"I know when I get up there something is going to hit me," Starsky Norman said. "I want to witness history."
Norman, 29, drove two hours from his home in Fayetteville to pick up his brother, Rahim Shomari from Jacksonville before they arrived in Greenville.
Shomari, a retired U.S. Army Ranger, said he is looking to gain information that would strengthen his own community work.

Well, thank you, finally. LOL.
It could be turned around visaversa, to give JJ & Sharpton and air of legitimacy, but with worse ramifications...folks who are listening to their message and don't see the blind racism sure aren't going to catch what Farrakhan is all about either. It's very much a dangerous mix, IMHO.
What an all-star crew...
Maybe they'd like to dig up Marx, Muhammad, and Hitler, and sit their bones at the dais while they're at it.
YOU CAN BE SURE THAT THEY WON'T INVITE BILL COSBY TO SPEAK TO ALL THESE PEOPLE.
What about the Nation of Islam attracted your attention? Honestly, these are the same activist-speakers that show up at all the ANSWER "peace" rallies.
Ah yes the "hundreds more" march.

From the article, I'm gathering that Mosque #79 is in Rocky Mount. I'm interested in knowing who my neighbors might be...
At the core of this year's event will be the ratification of a national black leadership covenant that will bind everyone to address issues of economic empowerment, youth development, crime and unity affecting black people world wide, the Rev. Robert Muhammad of Nation of Islam Mosque No. 79 said earlier this week.
"We want the various religious organizations and leaders to put down differences and come together under the spirit of atonement," Muhammad said. "We all know each one of us has brilliance and intelligence, but individually we're just parts of the puzzle. The Millions More Movement is striving to pull together those pieces."
Muhammad said work to finalize and implement a localized version of the covenant will be completed upon return from today's march.
Inquiring minds want to know: was Rahim Shomari's birth name "Hutch Norman"?
(And then we'd like to go to Margaritaville ...)

Put "race" aside for a moment and peer closely at these two groups in what they are similarly rooted in: ideology. A set of belief systems. The mere existence of these two groups keeps these two groups with membership, a core following for, eh, cults?
In this instance, however, there will be no riots -- Farakhan's groups will not be "rioted". In re the KKK? There was a riot, as blacks protested the existence of this group.
The root supposition here is that ==IF== the KKK did not exist, nor would, say, Farrakhan's group.
The more Farrakhan's group marches, the more the KKK will march and vice versa.
Around and around it all goes.
It reminds me of grade school: The girl marks the guy, he pulls her pigtails, she retaliates by ratting on him, he sends her a note, she goes public with the note to her girlfriends.
Until that fateful day when someone makes the loud remark: So and So are in LOVE (obsession) with each other.
Thanks. Both of these could intersect with this thread as well.

Thanks. There sure is a lot going on, eh?
Yes there is. Reminds me of a scene from the flick Poltergeist.. the "haunted" finally get some scientists in to help the family.. spectral light goes whizzing by.. Scientist expresses awe, the family member says: Hold on, they usually travel in pairs -- there'll be another one... and another goes whizzing by.
That put a grin on my face to step back and look at the big picture and what my face must look like as I follow all these stories. Nothing much has, in these stories, put a grin on my face, except that : )
The push to keep "racism" (man-made constructs) alive and well has been going on for so long, overlong, one has to step back away from it, to get a sound (if not saner) perspective. What do we see? Mortals. It's a Hatfield/McCoy type of brawl with regard to Public "Race" stances, IMHO. They want you angry, and they want you to join their POLITICAL IDENTITY groups. Ergo, it's not about race, per se, but rather how race can be used for Politics, laws, monies, etc.
I'm surprised you didn't get a ping to ping the b/c list.
