Bush touts Iraq vote; Democrats want clear U.S. strategy Both see hope in poll on draft constitution

Saturday, October 15, 2005; Posted: 11:17 a.m. EDT (15:17 GMT)

(CNN) -- Calling Saturday's constitutional referendum "a critical step forward in Iraq's march toward democracy," President Bush said the vote will "deal a severe blow to the terrorists" striking out at the struggling democratic system.

A leading Democrat, retired Gen. Wesley Clark, sent out a cautionary message about the larger context of what he says is expected to a "large turnout for the referendum: While it "seems to be an important step" for the country "let's not kid ourselves about the difficulties that lie ahead."

The president on Saturday delivered his weekly radio address, and Clark, a Democratic presidential candidate in 2004, delivered the Democratic response.

Bush said "after choosing their leaders in free elections in January, the Iraqi people have gone to the polls to vote on a democratic constitution. This constitution is the result of months of debate and compromise by representatives of Iraq's diverse ethnic and religious communities.

"These leaders came together to produce a document that protects fundamental freedoms and lays the foundation for a lasting democracy."

See the full article for Clark's bitter remarks. They could at least STFU for one day.

Dems would do themselves a lot of good to embrace our efforts in Iraq.

They are stupid and self-serving. Their whole OPPOSITION to the war is about being AGAINST BUSH. They cannot put forth their agenda honestly. The people won't buy into Marxism. So all they can do IS LIE AND OBSTRUCT everything this adminstration does, regardless of how appropriate it might be or not be.

The Democrats have the ability to find the dark cloud for every silver lining. They sure are a fun group.

Now, now, be fair. You know that the Demonrats can't let the joy of freedom's victory take hold among the masses.

In 6 months, Clark will be claiming credit for our success in Iraq. Barbara Boxer will claim that the Bush Admin should've listened to the Dems advice to invade Iraq immediately after 9-11. Nancy Pelosi will castigate the Republicans for holding up a Charlie Rangel-bill requiring a doubling of defense spending.

"Dems would do themselves a lot of good to embrace our efforts in Iraq."

Are you kidding? This is a major disappointment for them, but it is nothing compared to when we invade Syria and find all them missing WMD's....the dems will pass out in anger!

Don't you just love CNN???? They spent more print on Clark's response to President Bush than they spent on the story itself and the President's remarks put together. No wonder CNN is behind Fox Network in the ratings!

Bush has a clear strategy: victory.

The Democrats have rhetoric.

General Clark was relieved of the Nato Command by
Bubba for almost starting a war with Russia in Yugoslavia.
He was promoted to 3 stars by Bubba only beause Clark was from Arkansas.

Clark, who was NATO's supreme allied commander during the Kosovo war in 1999, called the vote "an important political event" and said "I wish this were the end of the story in Iraq, but it isn't." He criticized the Bush administration's handling of the war in his remarks. "Public confidence in President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq has sunk to an all-time low. An increasing number of Americans of all political persuasions are now calling for expedited withdrawal of U.S. forces. "More and more Americans are angry. They are angry about the president's incompetence and his general unwillingness to acknowledge with some humility that he has made some terrible and tragic mistakes regarding the mission in Iraq."

This from an incompetent boob whose mismanagement caused the bombing of the Chinese embassy, almost started a war with the Russians (prevented only when the Brits refused to go along with his plan to attack an airport manned by Russian soldiers), and whose idea of waging war is the deliberate devastation of the civilian infrastructure, including every single bridge across the Danube.

If they ever do a remake of Dr. Strangelove, this clown gets my vote to be cast as the deranged General Jack D. Ripper:

I'll bet you the Rats are sad. It would not surprised me if many would have loved to see a low turn out, and hopefully the constitution failed. It would not surprised me if the were dissapointed people did not die, especially nice if 20 of our own would have died!

Yes, I am not kidding. Some of them are evil.

They pretend to care for our Military, but I don't believe it, unless they can use it for social engineering.

Do you think I am being too harsh on them?

" See the full article for Clark's bitter remarks."

When I heard Clark's remarks on the radio- I assumed they were from an appearance on Hardball or Crossfire.
His anger and vitriol were unbelievable.
Apparently , this is what passes for an adult in the Democrat party.
President Bush gives a thoughtful address every Saturday morning and the Democrats use their time solely to trash him personally -regardless of the topic at hand.

Deep down most Dems know that Bush is right about Iraq. But to admit it would be political suicide to the Dem pols who owe their office to (1) left-wing wackos and (2) Bush-bashing. Obviously if Gore or Kerry were doing what Bush is doing (I know, fat chance of that possibility), then this would be the greatest thing in the history of mankind. Politics trumps common-sense and the welfare of the nation every day for libs and Dems.

Of all the current crop of Dems, I think I despise Wesley Clark the most.

He should be ashamed of himself.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you.

I'm pretty sure that I despise him the most.
