TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police used tear gas to break up a rock-throwing crowd that had gathered to protest a planned march Saturday by the National Socialist Movement.
At least two dozen members of a Roanoke, Va.-based group that calls itself "America's Nazi Party" had gathered at Wilson Park just before noon and were to march under police protection.

The leader of the National Socialist Movement's chapter in Roanoke, Va., said the rally won't sway the movement's support base.
"We stated repeatedly ... that the local blacks and their political leaders are a bunch of loudmouthed cowards, and that we expect that, when confronted with their criminal behavior by strong and organized white people, would run, hide, and whine. And it appears that is exactly what is happening," Bill White said in a statement.

Some forms of speech can be prohibited. For instance, threats against some public figures are criminal.
No, threats against anyone are criminal, not just public figures. But the threats have to be imminent and credible; you can't say "he's a nazi so he must be thinking about killing me" because that's not a credible and imminent threat. It's pure speculation and - often - psychological projection since the people who often claim the nazis are violent are themselves advocates of violence, a la Anti-Racist-Action, One People's Project, etc.
Seems to me that it would be within the strictures of the Constitution to ban the Nazi Party, given its history.
Not according to any version of the US Constitution that I have read, and frankly I am shocked that alleged conservatives on an alleged conservative website could make such statements. The US Constitution clearly states what powers the US government is limited to, and banning political parties because "people don't like them" is not a power granted to the government by the Constitution. That's the "living Constitutional" claptrap that the liberals are always trying to peddle: the Constitutional doesn't mean what it says, but is always evolving to fit the "needs of the day". No thank you. That's not a version of the Constitution that any conservative can support.

You are falling for the media spin about "evil nazis" but it's bunk. Bill White is a very intelligent, and financially well off, individual. If you think nazis are stupid, you better put that stereotype to one side when dealing with Bill White. Mr. White is no fool and he knows exactly how far he can go legally; he can be as offensive as he wants without ever getting close to the legal line of inciting to riot. No one has a "right not to be offended". Sorry, case closed.
Now go do what the news media will not do: do your research on Anti-Racist Action, One People's Project, and the rest. These groups openly advocate violence against not only "nazis" (who in their minds are anyone to the right of themselves, politically, including you and I) but against anyone they don't like, including police. These groups get away with street violence all the time. It was these groups who were inciting riots, not Bill White.

Yes, very few people do embrace the Nazi ideology in this country. There are many people, however, who are race conscious here and Nazism does attract a few of them when they feel their ethnic group or identity are threatened. (There are some people who adopt the Hitlerian ideology from places like Japan and even Black Africa (!).) So it's not wholly race specific, but overwhelmingly Nazis are White, Northern European types, though, again, few in number.
A good friend of mine said that the Toledo Blade should be called "Coins and Boings" because all it talks about anymore is the Tom Noe/Bob Taft coin scandal and catholic sex abuse cases. I think they had a competition against the NYT/Abu Ghraib about how many times in a row they can repackage the same news with a new titillating headline.

Sorry to inform you that due to PC & protests from the Feminazis, there hasn't been a pic of a hot babe in there since...hmmm....roughly the late 80's,very early 90's, I believe. For a brief time, they tried alternating the babe pics with 'hunks' , but that didn't satisfy the Feminazis, so they just dropped it altogether.
I most certainly agree that ideals matter. And I'll add that race consciousness can be very dangerous, but I don't think race will ever just go away. It's too much a part of what every person is whether he or she knows it or not. It shouldn't be allowed to make us lose sight, though, of higher values and our other ties to our fellow humans. It's a complicated topic, but just to let you know, I fully support equal treatment of citizens under the law.
When I was a teenager, I used to walk (and later drive) all over town. When I was drinking, I used to go to a 24-hour black restaurant (believe it was called The Spot)on Dorr Street to eat ,after the bars closed, on occasion. I never had one bit of trouble. God, just realized...I can count the 24-hour restaurants here pretty much on my two hands now. Remember when there was one on practically every block? Just about everything's gone but the big chains, now. Drive-ins, downtown theatres, most small local business, everything.
Kind of Irannic isn't it?

Hey, you're locked into the mainstream interpretation, and your mind is not open to the proposition that this may not be the correct interpretation. For so long as you remain so, there's no point in discussing it.
