TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police used tear gas to break up a rock-throwing crowd that had gathered to protest a planned march Saturday by the National Socialist Movement.

At least two dozen members of a Roanoke, Va.-based group that calls itself "America's Nazi Party" had gathered at Wilson Park just before noon and were to march under police protection.

Actually, the problem is that we have masses of people in our urban areas ready to commit mayhem, assault, arson and even murder at the drop of a hat.

The Nazis know it and are all to happy to trigger the ungliness. That makes them jerks in my book.

Well, I'm obviously discussing this with a lady cop or a relative of one.

Can you honestly say that a lady cop can do the following as well as a male cop?
Handcuff a big guy who is violent and on crack?
Lift a heavy piece of timber off of an injured person?
Chase down a fleeing suspect? (Granted, many overweight donut-chompers cannot do this either - but that is another issue.)
Intervene in a violent situation if no backup is handy or out of reach?
Use muscle to free trapped persons (earthquakes, crashes, fires)?
Go toe to toe with a male aggressor if attacked by surprise or otherwise?

Policemen play the role of society's muscle.
I can agree that policewomen look nicer in uniform, but they can never keep up with the boys.

I agree the nazis are jerks, but my point is that we cannot allow 'Terrorism' to thwart the right of free speech. Today, effectivly the Black thugs accomplished just that. So whats next.. what will someone say that will set off another black riot just because they don't like what they here.

What if Louis Farrakhan and the NAACP gathered together tens of thousands and marched ......

Oh never mind.

Yes - I expect a tiny rally to be ignored - not be used as an excuse for general lawlessless and rioting.

Don't make excuses for rioters. Don't have a double standard for acceptable behaviour, or you are contributing to the problem.

Like it or not - the Nazi's were correct in this case. They wanted to draw attention to a neighborhood that was out of control. They proved their point.

The real question is - why does it take Nazis from Roanoke to draw attention?

Hate speech laws were enacted for a reason.

"How often we forget key constitutional issues"

Did we forget or is it more likely that the Consitution has been mis-interpreted, re-interpreted or expanded by judicial fiat?

Advocating the over throw of the U.S. Government is free speech, is it not?

They wanted to draw attention to a neighborhood that was out of control.

Was it? All of this because of one post on an internet board? Do you want some outside group coming in to "clean up" your town? Maybe there's a lot more to this.

As bad as the Nazis are, they have the right to have their march. It's sad that people can't see that and have to start a riot.

Exactly. They can't just decide that they won't give certain groups permits based on their politics.

Two dozen Nazis is a movement?

A four-flusher is a much bigger movement.

The counterprotesters CAME to be violent and cause problems. From their myspace group:

One People's Project

Since we started the site in 2000, many people have asked to be involved. The One People's Project is about one thing: disseminating information. We are a collection of people across the country and in Canada the UK that are active in gathering that information about any and all persons involved in racist/right-wing activity. We may participate in the organization of an action from time to time, but our primary mission is to be an online resource for those fighting fascism. In order to facilitate the effort against racism and hatemongering, you can help collect that information. We hope this helps in getting more people involved in fighting the real war against terrorism. We will not argue with these jerkoffs anymore. Now we stop them.

Vigilantes pure and simple. Wonder what their position is on those watching the border.

A quick perusal of some of the discussions shows they hate republicans and the minutemen,

Okay to riot at neo-nazi rallies? What about Republican candidate rallies?

Why isn't this group's political ideology brought to the forefront in the article? Republicans AREN'T fascists. This is more than just a true anti-fascist group. What type of socialist-anarchist front are they?

Lookiong at their profile pictures, there is a shot of president Bush his arm outstretched (OBVIOUSLY he is a Hitler wannabe, < /sarcasm >) also a black masked "counterprotester" under a banner marked "REVOLUTION", and one of their thugs spraypainting the graffitti "All COPS ARE BASTARDS".

Don't blame the neo-nazis for this one, blame the Brownshirts For Kerry. These are the frontline troops in the Left's Civil War battles.

These leftists hate the police. If there are police present "restraining" rhe "counter" protesters (really protesters of a different stripe, they continue to protest even when there is nothing to counter) they take it as just cause to riot.

Unfortunately, I agree. The way things are these days, you never know if you are the next one to be targeted for your views. The best way to handle it is to allow it. Inciting to violence is different. If Nazis were standing on the croner screaming at their supporters to do something illegal and the actions were carried out, there there would be recourse for action. But the group's philosophy cannot be used to excuse violence against them if they have done no illegal acts.

Tough luck for the cops, protecting the scum that you want to beat with a nightstick.

Yeah, the cops often get caught in situations that they would rather be on the other side. I would personally like to use a baseball bat on the little socialist/commie dirt bags. LOL I'm sure the ACLU would protect them too, if anyone dare to lay a finger on them.
