Science and religion may differ on how we got here, but increasingly there is little disagreement on where we are headed if we don't begin to address the causes of climate change. Scientists have long warned of the dangers of global warming attributed to our profligate use of fossil fuels. Now, one of the nation's most influential religious groups is delivering the same message, if based on an alternative standard of proof.
"I had a conversion experience on the climate issue not unlike my conversion to Christ," Richard Cizik, vice president for governmental affairs at the National Association of Evangelicals, told the environmental magazine Grist. "I was at a conference in Oxford where Sir John Houghton, an evangelical scientist, was presenting evidence of shrinking ice caps, temperatures tracked for millennia through ice-core data, increasing hurricane intensity, drought patterns, and so on. I realized all at once, with sudden awe, that climate change is a phenomenon of truly biblical proportions."
The 30-million-member association, which Cizik says is one of the strongest voices in the Republican Party, isn't just talking about global warming. It is taking action. Calling the doctrine "creation care," the association is conducting a scripture-based campaign to convince its members that they are "commissioned by God the Almighty to be stewards of the earth."
Cizik doesn't rule out formal collaboration with secular environmental groups such as the Sierra Club. And the association is preparing a position paper on global warming policy.
For his part, Cizik is practicing what he preaches. "We sold our RV, which got about five miles per gallon, and bought a Prius, which gets about 10 times that," he told Grist. "I oughta get a commission from Toyota for the number of people I've converted to the Prius."
Soon, there will be no haven for those who continue to ignore the environmental challenges ahead.

Unfortunately, that means the Sun is causing it, and unless somebody can figure out how to fly up to Old Sol, and reset the themostat, we are just going to have to endure.
The problem I've had with the Global Warming crowd all along is that they have an agenda to cripple the West's economies, and give the worst polluters a pass. That, and many of 'em were promoting a New Ice Age a while back.
Truth is, we just do not have enough accurate data, over a wide enough time frame ( geologic, meaning thousands and tens of thousands of years ) to have more than the vaguest idea of what is happening, or what to do about it.

Cizik: It is simply our articulation of a biblical doctrine, which is that we are commissioned by God the Almighty to be stewards of the earth. It is rooted not in politics or ideology, but in the scriptures. Genesis 2:15 specifically calls us "to watch over and care for" the bounty of the earth and its creatures. Scripture not only affirms this role, but warns that the earth is not ours to abuse, own, or dominate. The Bible clearly says in Revelation 11:18 that "God will destroy those who destroy the earth."

The quote from the article references Revelation 11:18 y stateing "The Bible clearly says in Revelation 11:18 that "God will destroy those who destroy the earth.".."
This may be an interpretation that adds or deletes from the meaning of the Book of Revelation. Here are several verses preceding and one after the quotation from the Bible.
It might also be noted that some 11 years ago, I witnessed a presentation regarding the ice core data which presented the evidence that the ice core data continued to decrease in modern history, indicating from the lessor core thicknesses that global warming had been proven. (i.e., more recent ice cores are thinner and thinner, ergo we have proof that the global temperatures have been warming over the last century.)
Another professor at the conference mentioned he had also seen the data, but that the data had been collected from the shelf where prevailing wind currents always impinged from the tropics as the first land mass of mountains after the winds had travelled from the tropics for millenia. Had there been global warming, there should have been increased evaporation over the ocean, and upon landfall at the mountain ranges where temperatures were permanently below freezing, rather than lessor thicknesses of ice core data, there should have been greater thicknesses of ice core data closer to the surface.
The conclusion was that this same evidence, shabbily put forward as proof positive that global warming existed, actually condemned the theory, giving justification to beliefs of the opposite.
The presenter of the global warming hypothesis and shabby conclusions had no retort, remained silent for a moment, then proceeded with taking questions, ignoring the comment from the gallery. I've noticed that same criticism went unheeded and not in the documentation through about 2004. Over this last year, several persons giving conservative appearances, have now come forward reversing the findings, but claiming their data states the cores are thicker now.
I suspect this is sham science being perpetrated for ulterior motives. I don't know why, nor am I really too concerned why, but I do report this intereting observation of contrary 'scientific' justification which is more obviously explicable by political motives than simple environmental pseudoscience.

They might also express some concern over the admonition in the last few verses in the Book of Revelation prior to their public quotation.
The Democratic Socialists expressed a fair amount of interest in the doctrines of 'evangelsim' after the last election. I suspect we will see a number of counterfeit 'evangelical' groups coming into the public forum in the next decade. I don;t know if this group fits that same ilk, but I hold their position a bit suspect.
And I'll take a "wild" guess here, that it's a HUGE $$$$$$ raising machine for churches.

imo, reading gods word clearly leads me to believe that their will be a conjunction between alledged or real believers such as this one who might just be showing he is simply ignorant and all the vast anti god forces. this common stream will come along on issues such as environment, gays, economics, govt, education. anti god types have excellent tactics, god says so himself, they steer the issue away from its true import and slide it onto something irrelevant, yet hyped to the nth degree. when confusion reigns, they then frame the complete issue in their words and terms. they really do a great job.
