Well put. Realize that the Filipino Insurrection of 1899-1904 was, for the most part, aimed at the political defeatin America of Pres. McKinley. Aguinaldo, the rebel leader, admitted this openly. After the 1900 election, and appointment of a "hard line" general who did not shy away from "brual" tactics," the "insurgency" there collapsed quickly.

I do too, and I don't disparage for one moment what is happening in Iraq, but just a caution: it was "democracy" that elected Adolf Hitler and put the Nazis in power. We must be girded to accept---if not now, down the line---that for every Allawi or Kharzai that's elected, we will get a Nehru or a Chirac.

Exactly.
The MSM will be disappointed unless there is carnage in the streets.

The MSM is already disappointed by the lack of violence, especially as there haven't been any suicide attacks. al-Reuters was longing for a day at least as bad as in January where there were over 100 attacks and a few bombings thrown in for bad measure.
Maybe the Iraqi's should provide a few attacks directed soley at the media so they'll quit their whining.

Whether a person voted 'yes' or 'no', they still voted -- indicating a preference for democracy over tyranny. That's how I see it too. What difference does it make how they voted? The thing is they actually got a voice.

Umm actually Hitler was appointed not elected. He never won a majority vote. He was the leader of the largest Minority Party and was appointed to be Chancellor as part of a coalition Govt. The German Establishment, thought bringing Hitler into the Govt would co-opt him. He then rammed thru an emergency decree thus his tame parliment after Hindenburg's death making him Fuhrer.

Voting stations in Tal Afar are open but no reports on the turnout in the town, however the local officials of the electoral commission in Mosul said that the number of voters who turned out in the city is a surprise. This is from Iraq the Model.

Just watching an MSNBC report.
People brought their FAMILIES to the polls to let their kids know what voting is like. There has been an enormous turn-out and almost no violence, even in Baghdad and Fallujah!
This is WONDERFUL! Our troops are AWESOME!!

Fallujah turnout was overwhelming.
The MSM is going to have to be really creative to make this day a failure.
No doubt they'll try, but they're going to have to work hard at it....
