Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he might run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 _ unless some candidates promote his ideas.
"There are circumstances where I will run," Gingrich told a news conference before a speech at the University of Mobile.
Earlier this year, in an interview with The Associated Press, Gingrich said, "Anything seems possible."
Asked under what circumstances he would enter the race, Gingrich, 62, said he plans to continue traveling the United States talking about the issues.
"My hope is that five or six candidates are going to jump up, steal all of my ideas, and I will be able to relax and go golf," he said.
The former Georgia congressman said if nobody picks up on the ideas and the country thinks they are significant, a campaign is possible. But he added that's "so far down the road and so much less important than my two grandchildren."
He used to be my representative. Some good ideas, but he frittered it all away because he couldn't keep it in his pants.
A man who will betray his wife will betray ANYbody, especially taxpayers he's never met.
I prefer him over McCain.
Draft Newt! He's our last best hope for an Originalist Supreme Court!
The Liberals have already beaten him once and ran him out of town. He couldn't even hang on to the Speakers job.
No.He has good ideas but backed down.
Newton McCain Gingrich, just what we needed.
[Snicker]
Sure, Newt.
Run.
Why did you leave politics before, Newt? Oh, yeh, ethics violation and 'zipper' problems.
He should try the senate first. If he could even get elected in Ga.
Newtie should just go away.
I didn't know about the cancer.
I had read she had MS.

The only one out there right now worth the time and effort is Dick Cheney. I could see Lynn as First Lady. Everyone else being bandied about pale in comparison. (IMHO). Perhaps Rice as a VP? Not sure about that one. Definitely not President Newt, Guiliani or McCain. Not even Allen.
Behold, the power of self-delusion.
My family knew Newt and Marianne quite well....My kid's called him Uncle Newt....What he did to Marianne was wrong.....
He is a great man with wonderful concepts, however, he lacks the character to be good president.
NeverGore :^)
Newt's a legend in his own mind...
That's how I see it. FWIW.
Gingrich's pic with Hitlery and his "healthcare plan" are all that's needed to wreck any hopes he has in a Republican primary. So long Newt.
