PARIS, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A mysterious disease hit waterfowl in west Iran, leaving thousands of dead birds, the cause is still unknown, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) said here on Thursday.

"A high mortality has been observed among wild waterfowl in Poldasht (in West Azerbaijan province)" said the Paris-based organization on its website.

It noted that there was no pathological agent identified nor particular lesion appeared at the autopsy and that weakness and death are only signs of this affection.

The OIE said a total of 3,673 wild waterfowl had died since thephenomenon was found on Oct. 2, said the Iranian authorities, which have quarantined the region.

Iranian veterinary services are asked for test over bird flu research and further information about the disease. Enditem

So, this is a report on Iranian birds, coming out of Paris (France, I assume?)and reported in a Chinese paper?

That papertrail seems odd....this story could be total bunk.

I guess this means that McDonalds chicken Mcnuggets price will go up just like oil has.
Just think ? if this virus has a world wide devastating effect, we might not be seeing any turkey in the future for Thanksgiving, unless they can raise turkeys and chickens in isolated farms were this virus won't effect them.

Yep.

Northern Foods yesterday blamed bird flu and the resulting supply problem for raising the price of the chicken meat it uses as an ingredient for its processed foods. The company said the avian flu has led the company to buy more expensive locally reared chicken.

Since when is a disease referred to as an "affection"?
