ALARM - men armed in a school with Naltchik
VLADIKAVKAZ (Russia) - armed men entered a school of Naltchik, the capital of the Russian Caucasian republic of Kabardino-Balkarie, and shootings were heard there, brought back a witness, questioned by telephone by AFP since the republic close to Ossétie of North.
All Caucasian nations suffers from Chechnya...
I've heard that school wasn't grasped. The school located near building of department of interior affairs (police)where is the fight's going on. The children was evacuated from the school. Terrorists attacked all military objects simultaneously in the city. It seems they wanted to obtain some weapons like it was last summer in another province of Russia - Ingushetia. But other saurce says that cause of attack was an arrest one of the terrorist - vakhabbit a day before.
Some source denied that aggression is beat off. 10 terrorist are killed. Additional forces were transfered to Nalchick. The board between North Osetia & Kabardino - Balkaria is closed. The situatian is very grave. The information is discrepant.

Fighting has erupted between police and rebels in government buildings, a school and airport in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region, say reports.
At least two suspected rebels have been killed and a policeman wounded in the clashes in Nalchik, the main city of Kabardino-Balkaria.
Children were being evacuated from the school as gunfire resounded around the town, said witnesses.
Kabardino-Balkaria is a Muslim region near war-ravaged Chechnya.
There have been several confrontations this year between the authorities and alleged extremists in the province.
"At the present moment, federal forces have clashed with certain armed bands," regional deputy state prosecutor, Nikolai Shepel, was quoted by Russia's Interfax news agency as saying.

20 died and 40 wounded in Naltchik
MOSCOW - At least 20 people died and 40 others were wounded in the launched attacks Thursday by men armed against buildings with the police force with Naltchik, announced a person in charge for the hospital of this city of the Russian Caucasus to the radio independent Echo of Moscow.

Civilians are also feared caught up in the clashes that spread to a school, airport and government buildings in Nalchik city, Kabardino-Balkaria.
A hospoital source told Moscow radio there were 20 "uniformed" bodies.
Kabardino-Balkaria, a Muslim area near war-ravaged Chechnya, has been the scene of several confrontations between authorities and alleged extremists.
A police official told Itar-Tass news agency that a number of police and militants had been killed.
"We are checking the information about fatalities at police stations and possible victims among civilians," he said.
A source at Nalchik's Republican Hospital told Ekho Moskvy radio that the dead who had been brought in were "all people in uniform".
At least 40 injured people had been taken to the hospital, with more arriving all the time, the source added."
There is another number: about 300 terrorists attaked the capital of Kabardino - Balkaria, Nalchick. About 50 terrorists are already killed. As i said the agression is beat of, now police pursue bandits in Nalchick's suburbia.
But there is desultory fire in some districts of town. Citizens are scared & try to leave for town...
Chechen rebels say they attacked Russian town
MOSCOW, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Chechen rebel forces and local Islamist militants were behind a mass attack on the southern Russian town of Nalchik, a statement on Chechen rebel Web site www.kavkazcenter.com said on Thursday.
"Forces of the Caucasus Front -- a unit of the Chechen Republic's Armed Forces -- went into the town, including attack brigades from the Kabardino-Balkarian Yarmuk (Islamist brigade)," the statement said.
The Web site frequently publishes rebel claims of responsibility for attacks on Russian targets.
Officers fighting militants surrounded in police building (Part 2)
NALCHIK. Oct 13 (Interfax) - "An operation is underway against militants surrounded on the first floor of the Nalchik third district police department," a high-ranking representative of the Kabardino- Balkaria Interior Ministry told Interfax.
"The second and third floors of the building are under police control and more policemen are helping them from the outside," the source said.
Nalchik residents said that the attack started unexpectedly at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday. The day began as usual, with people on their way to work when armed men wearing black appeared on the city's streets and started shooting. Eyewitnesses said they did not try to take any civilians hostage. An attempt to attack an Arsenal weapons store was made.
Locals said that it is now quiet in Nalchik, and, in most districts, shooting has subsided. People lay dead on the streets, but it is unknown whether they are attackers or civilians. There is no precise information about casualties as yet.

No, unfortunatly basaev is still alive, but i've heard that russian federal forces blokced a huge base of terrorists in Kabardino - Balkaria near Nalchik & attacking the town was a divert manoeuvre to let other leave. Or may be it was an attempt to acquire weapones.
