Now that the self appointed gods of the Conservative movement have decided that a Supreme Court nominee is reason to overthrow the President, it is time to re-evaluate who speaks for the grass roots. The main tactic of these gasbags is to use their echo chamber in the new press as a bludgeon to attack anyone who disagrees with their coup. These are the Conservative idealists who falsely believe that the Country has moved as far right as we are. These folks are generally straight fiscal Conservatives and secular in their beliefs. These folks think that because Harriet Miers is not a selection that would begin the final war have they turned their guns on Liberal President George W Bush.
They forget the fact that GW has taken every punch that has been thrown by the left from Michael Mooron to Drunk Uncle Ted and won every branch of gummit, nothing is good enough. Never mind that he has single handedly engineered the war, brought tax cuts and pushed through Partial Birth ban, it is never enough. These idealists wont allow any discussion or compromise on any issue and have formed a 3rd rail mentality on most Conservative issues.
The Harriet Miers nomination is a masterful nomination because there is no way to bring a Conservative to the bench that has any published opinions. Unless the administration was ready to have a two year nuclear war over a nominee such as Janice Rogers Brown who would not get a vote, had to go the no paper trail route. Who in their right mind would want to be put through the liberal lynching? Not to mention this would just become a whos the biggest racist argument and JRB deserves far better. Now, who wants to go through this Conservative lynching?
This is now a no compromise position just as the Immigration issue or an all or none rhetoric that killed that potential legislation. When President offered a starting point on the immigration problem and asked for input, the hard Right would not hear of anything other than the moat and electric fence idea so we got nothing. They are now doing the same thing with Harriet Miers to the point that they will not listen to anything other than another Bork. This is a suicidal stand for any potential nominee that would be foolish enough to accept this dead end. The only people that use this tack are the self anointed Conservative gods who are driving this coup. My choice was Ms Coulter since we need a SCJ in a micro-robe, but when she called HR the cleaning lady she showed that with her wit she should take up knitting.
Fortunately President Bush doesnt fear anyone, even the Beltway thugs in his own Party. Many of us pulled for Conservatives like JRB, however we realize that she would be turned into mincemeat by the DemonRats and their stooges in the Stone Age Press. Even if our liberal Repubs didnt literally say they would vote against her, most of us know they would buckle. There is a reality that there are blue state Republicans that will not risk their careers for a cause. So why waste a year or two while ignoring more pressing issues such as energy to fight a losing battle. No, the politically brilliant move is to replace a liberal judge with a known by GW, Conservative judge.
Rather, our unelected clattering club of Republicans, led by that Looney Tunes Pukeannan demand another my way or the highway option. These people would rather have nobody than to give Harriet Miers who is by all observations a brilliant Pro-Life Christian attorney, a chance. Most of the grass roots are fine with her, it is just the cynical secular Right who have their own impossible litmus test. They have become the bully who finally got punched in the nose and are crying like a gaggle of hysterical women.
After Miers is added to the court, President Bush will have moved the Supreme Court dramatically to the right. This will no longer be a court that can be an automatic rubber stamp for Roe v Wade. This will be a court that will become a reflection of the principles we have all worked towards. Does anyone really believe JRB or Pryor are other than marginally to the Right of Miers if at all? Of course not, they are only spoiling for the fight and articles that would simply write themselves.
What we are left with is a void in talent that will be willing to take the personal abuse from the thugs on the Left and Right. Nobody marginally elect able is going to want to throw their lives into this meat grinder. The self appointed spokesmen for their sides are going to have a food fight over anybody. Miers is just the first example of the lynch mobs we have seen for the Honorable Clarence Thomas that are now coming from our side. There is no rationality and only my crystal ball tells all arguments with personal shots at her and the President. These thugs have destroyed their own credibility at their own bloody hands and will face losses as many loyalists turn away in complete and utter disgust.
Pray for W and Harriet Miers
Enough braying
Got links?
Ha!
I think both sides need to knock off the hyperbole and the flame baiting, and instead make their cases for their positions using logic and reason.
Everyday . . . and then some.
Dito - ENOUGH BRAYING!
Winking at a liberal nominee is not "payback" for anything GWB has done or hasn't done. The issue is Miers and she is NOT the best we have. You just can't twist my arm enough to have me believe otherwise. Nor will sniveling do the trick.
Even for braying ... this is OVER THE TOP:
"Now that the self appointed gods of the Conservative movement have decided that a Supreme Court nominee is reason to overthrow the President, it is time to re-evaluate who speaks for the grass roots. "
First verse of a popular song from WWII.
All the cowhands want to marry Harriet
For Harriet's handy with the lariat
But she don't want to marry yet
She's having too much fun.
As if the country was as far to the left as Ruth Bater Ginsburg when Clinton nominated her. Bush was spineless for not trying to whip his GOP majority in line and get her done.
Man! are you in the wrong place!....................
Great post.

I say BS. We can muster 50-51 Senators to confirm conservative nominees.
What? You aren't cowering in a corner to escape from the disapproval of the, for lack of a better term, Bushbots?
Feverishly praying she doesn't get in.
If SHE is the BEST we have, we're in deeper DO-DO than I thought!
Pray for W and Harriet Miers
Before you allow your scurrilous statements to get better of you, I suggest you back up your assertions with some evidence.
Agreed. A tactical discussion should be debated on whether BUSH should have promoted an all out battle with the DIMS relying on the GOPers or, as I believe he has done here, nominating a person that well know to him but relatively unknown to everyone else.
The ongoing name calling and infighting in the conservative community has been an embarrassment.
I've been waiting two weeks for this. Nice work. I see GWB as a pool hustler who is being outed in the middle of the game by his own "friends". And for that matter, which Senate Republicans are more conservative that GWB? There may be a few, but they are certainly in the minority.
