FAIRFIELD, Ohio
Two teenage boys charged with burning 20 small American flags set up in honor of a soldier who died from injuries sustained in Iraq have been sentenced to community service.
A Butler County juvenile court judge ordered the two boys, aged 13 and 15, to complete 40 hours of community service at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
The boys admitted to taking the flags from the yard and setting them afire under a car belonging to the soldier's sister-in-law. The vehicle was destroyed.
The flags commemorated Army Private First Class Tim Hines of Fairfield, who died in a Washington hospital July 14 of injuries suffered in June when a bomb was detonated while he was in a convoy traveling in Baghdad.
The fire was set early in the morning after his funeral.
WTH! What 'Service' can they provide to the Community. Maybe giving anti-war talks at elementary schools?
They should have gotten more Community Service time AND their parents should pay restitution and punitive damages for doing such a sh!tty job rearing them.
Maybe the mother and father should be doing the service
if they exist!!!!
I'm pretty sure the vets they will be serving will have plenty to teach them. Maybe get them up to speed.
Bastards!
I would imagine that the VFW will work them pretty hard.
Future Democratic leaders no doubt.
That's

Those kids (and their parents) need to be beaten like rented mules.

I hope these little shiite's parents had to pay for the car.
Too bad flogging and press gangs are out of style.
I remember this story. I'm glad they caught the little pukes.
I take it that the punishment for stealing a car is more than if you only destroy one.
Community service, my hairy purple @$$.
What happened to restitution for the value of the car? How about payment to the owner who either had to rent one or do without until she got another one?
Labor at minimum wage until the car is paid off would be the lowest sentence I would think appropriate.
What did these assclowns say was the reason for their vile actions?
Did they claim one?
The Battle of the Flag
By Gary Huddleston
A protest raged on a courthouse lawn, Round a makeshift stage they charged on, Fifteen hundred or more they say, Had come to burn a Flag that day. A boy held up the folded Flag, Cursed it, and called it a dirty rag. An OLD MAN pushed through the angry crowd, With a rusty shotgun shouldered proud. His uniform jacket was old and tight, He had polished each button, shiny and bright. He crossed that stage with a soldier's grace, Until he and the boy stood face to face. "FREEDOM OF SPEECH", the OLD MAN said, Is worth dying for, good men are dead, So you can stand on this courthouse lawn, And talk us down from dusk to dawn, But before any Flag gets burned today, This OLD MAN IS GOING TO HAVE HIS SAY!! My father died on a foreign shore, In a war they said would end all war. But Tommy and I wasn't even full grown, Before we fought in a war of our own. And Tommy died on Iwo Jima's beach, In the shadow of a hill he couldn't quite reach, Where five good men raised this Flag so high, That the WHOLE WORLD COULD SEE IT FLY. I got this bum leg that I still drag, Fighting for this same old Flag. Now there's but one shot in this old gun, So now it's time to decide which one, Which one of you will follow our lead, To stand and die for what you believe? For as sure as there is a rising sun, You'll burn in Hell 'fore this Flag burns, son. Now this riot never came to pass. The crowd got quiet and that can of gas, Got set aside as they walked away, To talk about what they had heard this day. And the boy who had called it a "dirty rag", Handed the OLD SOLDIER the folded Flag. So the battle of the Flag this day was won By a tired OLD SOLDIER with a rusty gun, Who for one last time, had to show to some, THIS FLAG MAY FADE, YET THESE COLORS DON'T RUN.
