During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

I didn't hear him today, but I do believe that ultimately, the conservatives and the GOP can prevail.

i can't believe Laura Bush played the sexist card...is that really true? Not IMO. She was blindsided by a gotcha question, and gave an inartful answer. People who see a "sexism" charge in that are, I think, tired out by the GOP denial and at this point, playing with all the stumbles that appear.

Yes I have read that khrushchev quote before...and it is true.
but socialized health care will be the final nail in the coffin for america. why do you think the dems are pushing for it so hard? they've propagandized peoples minds to think that "FREE health care is a RIGHT". nevermind that they try to impede free speech rights (prayer in school, etc) and right to bear arms.
if you're a democrat today what is your agenda?

"That's one of the most sensible things I've seen posted here today."------

for those raised up to lead?
Then maybe kid's in school could pray,
and unborn children see light of day."

I have 5 grandkids and boy, is this on my mind every single day.
Isn't that the everloving truth? You worry that everything that you have done in your life will come to naught if you let this country go down the tubes for your children & their children & so on.

""Affirmative action Republican" should theoretically be an oxymoron..."
OHHHH...are you SO right. Unfortunately... well you know...

John Fund made a simlar remark. Miers seems to have impeccable timing. The judicial nominations were made from 2001 to 2004. Years and months before she took her post in February 2005. The timing wasn't even close by days.
See post 532.

Another freaking lie. Laura was asked by the lefty Lauer on the today show if it could be because of sexism and she said well, maybe. It is sexism , it is just not the usual in the open ,in your face kind that eventually goes to court. If you listen to all the horrid comments and accusations about her you would get the drift, if she were a man none of this crap would be thrown at her. Calling her a dyke, saying she voted for hillary, she is pro gay, she should be someone's secretary,go fetch coffee Harriet, you are a wrinkled old hag, you look like you used Katherine Harris makeup, etc.etc,etc.

The true situation is that Mr. Bush picked this candidate and nominated her and she's going to be confirmed.
Stealth, smealth.

I didn't hear him today, but I do believe that ultimately, the conservatives and the GOP can prevail.I believe it is possible, but is far from certain. The GOP has to work at it, and so do conservatives. I'd say the GOP has let down its end of the load.

Actually, it's possible her remarks were intended to be vague.

I read this morning that Rush was addressing that very point.
Ed Gillespie used the sexist argument earlier...parroted by a few here
it's no secret Laura was big on Meirs...and W listens to her...as I would listen to my wife too
I like her beauty and dignity. I know she is more left than me on cultural questions but would like to think she did not play any "ist" or "ism" cards

Yes, 58 yea votes for a position not nearly as critical to the Democrats as the Supreme Court. Your words were shoo-in...and Santorum wouldn't be that. I mean come on...let's appreciate not just what's at stake but how this fight would actually be waged.
And weren't the Democrats the majority party (or technically "power sharing" with the push-over Republicans, but it amounted to the same)? The Republicans have 10 seats on the Democrats now. It would take a united Democrat filibuster to stop a nominee that the Republicans were behind, and that would not happen against one of their own for sure.

I wrote "this next confirmation will be a huge battle." My choice of words may have said something else. I was referring to the Harriet Miers confirmation battle.
To: sageb1
Which, unfortunately, the Supreme Court is so important /sigh....
