The FBI needs to start talking (OU Spin Alert)
The Oklahoma Daily ^ | October 10, 2005 | OK Daily Editorial Staff

Posted on 10/10/2005 1:27:09 PM PDT by LibertyRocks

One week and two days after the FBI began investigating the Joel Hinrichs case, the feds seemingly have stopped releasing information about what they have learned.

It’s time the FBI opened its files and provided The Daily, other media and the greater public with some of the answers it undoubtedly has, for more than one reason.

First, the public wants to know. Second, and almost more importantly, the longer this silence continues, the more students, faculty and the nation become “certain” in their “knowledge” of what has happened.

But that “knowledge” is based mostly on conjecture and hearsay, and while responsible media can attempt to stave off this unfortunate trend, they will ultimately lose that battle if the FBI fails to realize it has an obligation to speak because only they truly “know” what they have discovered.

Remember, the FBI has commandeered this investigation. In doing so and by not telling anyone anything, they are only allowing the events of Oct. 2 to be misinterpreted over and over by people who are firm in believing something that is false and terribly dangerous.

For example, unsubstantiated claims that Hinrichs had been frequenting the Norman mosque have managed to seep onto television news broadcasts even though everyone we have contacted at the mosque says Hinrichs was never seen there.

So who is lying? Inherently, people should perceive the unfounded news broadcasts as the liars, but that doesn’t always happen. And even if only one person sees and believes such a report there or online, word of mouth can transmit that “truth” to hundreds or thousands within a matter of days.

Which is why it is undeniably the duty of the FBI to break its unctuous vow of silence and talk to somebody. The longer the feds delay in doing so, the more they become equally responsible for misinformed social reactions as the hacks who started these rumors in the first place.

Wouldn't be "PC" of them to do so... You know Joel wasn't a Muslim and we must be careful not to offend anyone...

I agree. The Georgia Tech incident, even if it is completely unrelated to anything Islamic, is certainly more than just a prank. Setting explosive devices in public were an unsuspecting person can be injured -- and was injured -- is a criminal act. And it requires more than a reprimand. A little jail time wouldn't hurt.

Agreed, a little jail time is well called for in this incident - and probably some in-depth interrogation as well, IMHO.

All this stinks to high heaven.

Maybe these things have been addressed elsewhere,(still trying to catch up on all the threads) but I still find it odd the off duty policeman just happens to be in the store when he is attempting to buy ammonium nitrate. I find it odd that after he blows himself up, the cops very quickly find his Pakistani roommate, not at home, but at a party. How did they find him so quickly? Why take him and his buddies out in handcuffs simply because his roommate kills himself?

In other words, I think these guys were being tailed for a while.

You may be right about that. There are several things that might indicate he was being watched... the EBay transaction (which I have yet to add details about in my summary) is one thing that might point to the BATF or FBI having involvement early on.

Could be the off-duty cop is a friend of Ellison, and may hang out at the store - could be more...

I'm still rather disappointed they let his roommate go so quickly... I'd bet $100 that the FBI or someone else is watching him at this point - at least I'd hope so.

See my tagline for a link to my blog which has a rather comprehensive summary about this case - it's about halfway down the page.

I am just livid at the facts not coming out. I believe the people in Oklahoma are owed the TRUTH and we can certainly handle it. They treat us like they think we are going to start going after all Arabs -- I have news for them -- we are a lot smarter than that.

I want every last student whose VISA has expired to be deported and I don't care who they are -- if they are not in school deport them. Someone posted that one of our universities here (not OU) routinely approves visa request and some are for more than one student using the same visa. That student visa program needs to be cleaned up IMHO.

Also want to know why Boren coddles the Pakistani/Arab community so much -- makes no sense.

Would you like to take odds on who told them to print this editorial? Better odds then winning in our lottery if you ask me! :)

Journalist did not write that -- I agree!

I wouldn't believe the FBI if they told me the sky was blue -- I would go check. That's how little faith I have in that organization.

It is definitely maddening! We're told, "be vigilent, report anything suspicious" UNLESS it links back to Muslims? Excuse me? Do they think we forgot about 911? Or that our brave soldiers are fighting and dying in that God forsaken place?

Is Boren worried about enrollment? Are all universities selling out for the almighty dollar? It freaks me out that my youngest is living in Denton, attending UNT. I hate feeling this fear!

But it seems we will continue to be lied to. For what? So we won't demand that "students" with expired Visas be deported? Well guess what? I agree with you and I want them out of here, yesterday! And I'll go even further. All Mosques on campus or nearby should be watched very closely. Forgive me for being un-PC but I don't trust them. How many stood up and denounced 911?

sorry, rant over.....

That rant was very good! I couldn't agree more. Here at the Mosque they have a video camera watching us. Something is wrong with that picture.

My understanding is that the night of 9-11, they held
parties celebrating around campus. And after Moussaouri when Boren was asked to go through student visas, he wasn't the most helpful in order to protect the foreign students.

O M G

A video camera? Why? It should be the other way around! I can't for the life of me figure out why the govt., et al wants to take the chance that these hate filled cretins won't act upon that hatred.....actually, IMO, they already have and will continue to do so. With the blessing of the FBI. grrrrrrrrrr

This appears to be a disinformation piece to me. But then, I am cynical for good reason.

I've got to write-up something about it, and I'll put it up at my blog, but there were notes from the Fraternity that Ray66 posted on 10/02 in which Hinrichs refers to some "ammunition" he attempted to purchase from Ebay. Here are his remarks:

Meeting Minutes for 04-11-04 (Meeting #12)
Meeting Start 6:30pm

Br. Hinrichs
-Contiuing saga of missing ammo, guy on ebay told me he had my dorm address, didn't register that address with ebay, told me it shipped two days after it did
-Computer is recovering

With the remark about not giving the address in registration and the shipping date comments I'm thinking perhaps the sale raised some red flags... It's possible the FBI did at least a cursory check of him at that point if the seller became suspicious and alerted them. This was well over a year ago though, so I doubt there was any active surveillance in place.

OMFG! Are they THAT "Stuck on Stupid"?!

"Hello...who...no we have NEVER had any contact with anybody by that name (nevermind that his Jihadi name is probably something like "Abu bin-Bubblebath", or some such nonsense..besides...it's a CELL! They NEVER use names, it's called deniability and Isolation!) {background..."Mohammed, whick wire goes to the detonator again? SILENCE...INFIDEL on the Phone!}"!

Nope...no connection here...because THE ISLAMAZIS SAID SO?!?!

Hey, Mainstream MORON Media...ever heard the term Al Taqiyya?!?!

Research...facts...it does a body GOOD!

Thanks. I found the post although the link is not working for me. Says the site is blocked. Could be something I'm not doing right. Very odd comment from him to be included in fraternity minutes.

Thanks again.
