Bush Goes on the PR Offensive
Time ^ | October 10, 2005 | PERRY BACON, JR.

With his poll numbers already at one of the lowest points in his tenure following Hurricane Katrina, President Bush took an unusual public battering from conservatives last week after nominating White House counsel and longtime aide Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court. But this week may offer Bush a chance to show progress on several issues that have plagued his second term. He will spend the first two days of the week in the Gulf Coast, where he'll attend the re-opening of a Mississippi elementary school and Habitat for Humanity building a house in Louisiana, as well as a dinner in New Orleans with local officials. He also has an interview on NBC's Today Show on Tuesday from Louisiana.

Habitat for Humanity building a house in Louisiana

First give Clinton a nod then have Carter take a bow.

After this Presidency I fear that a generation from now there will be a conversation on the net something like this....

Guy #1: Hey, do you remember conservatism?

Guy #2: Nope

Memo to: Dubya

From: Agent Smith

Subject: SPIN

1. How about a visit to the BORDER PATROL in Arizona?

2. How about withdrawing Crony Miers nomination for the SCOTUS?

3. How about displaying some gratitude to you base?

So...I'm wondering if you like all the other knee jerks will be willing to say you are wrong in a couple of years provided Miers is seated on the court and proves to be consistently a conservative voter.

I doubt anybody will be able to find you on FR...unless it is hiding under another name.

Carter is basically anti- American. My problem is with him. Groups associated with him should not be highlighted by the President's PR program.

And what will you say if she gets there and turns into another o'connor or worse?

That's the problem: She's a crap shoot. And one that will be there for life. And long after January 20, 2009.

W should be pushing his Base's agenda as to illegal immigration, victory over Islamofascism (not just terrorism), cutting taxes again and spending for once! PR after 5 years should not be necessary but with Harriet, W is in danger of fulfilling the wishes of The Post, The Times, The Inquirer when Pubs become the minority party once more!! Only Pub-conserserv voters can prevent that. No matter how W forgets his Base, only we voters can keep the barbarian Dems from taking over and especially in the foreign-affairs, national-security area.

The counterargument is that Bush has worked with her very closely for years, so from his background and knowledge, maybe she's not actually a crapshoot, that she'd only be considered a crapshoot if you don't know what Bush knows from his working relationship.
