You seem to put words in my mouth Gingis - did I report this event? Did I call in Homeland Security? Like I said before, things we did in the past are not tolerated any longer - this is an age with heightened security and threats - it is not only irresponsible to play like this, it is stupid and criminal -

Personally, I skip the yardwork and go straight for the beer. Then I get out the riding mower and get to work.

I'm charging $5 a head at the back gate for folks to come in and see the "crop circles." I've cleared over $600 so far.

You keep insisting that these were fused devices.Well, okay, just how do you know that they had any kind of fusing? I didn't see that in the account from the news-hiders.

My mom used to make this jello mold made from lime jello, cheese, cabbage, pimentos and pecans! The mother-of-all potluck terrors!!!

Aunt Bethany puts cat food in hers.

"Hence the song: In Heaven There Is No Beer ..."

It's all part of the principle of deferred gratification, and the sensible pursuit thereof.

If there is no beer in Heaven, there should be something even better!

The mind reels! I'm salivating over the thought. ... But I can wait. That's what I mean by deferred gratification!

You would have liked my job in the Air Force - jet engine mechanic. We used to fill 12"x12" ziploc bags with JP4, and toss them in the exhaust path of a J-79 on the open test cell. A really nice fireball and noise. Of course, civilians driving by on Las Vegas Blvd called it in one night, and the security police came by, allegedly to stop us. But we let them try it a couple times, and they went away happy... :)

Naughty, naughty. You didn't invite your friendly USAFR Captain El Gato over for the fun! For shame.

I would have thought you could have gotten the nearly same effect by just manipulating the throttle, into, out of and back in to burner. J-79 was loud enough all by itself. Two of them, equisit. However, if anything the old J-75 (F-105 and F-106) was even louder. When I was on active duty, I lived right under the approach path. When the local reserve unit's F-105s did a formation break type landing, one of them would come right over my house, low enough that I could see if the pilot's helmet visor was down or up.

Why do you think we can't get John Smith's Best Bitters in the United States? It's because it's being exported up there!

The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to search for suspects.

I recall that the OU bomber had very many plastic bottles inside his car according to reports.

Perhaps this is the method that will be used on 'soft targets' and these are test incidents?

Well, yeah, you could rumble the motor by doing snaps and bogies, but you ran a chance of damaging the motor. Why do that, when ziplocs were free from supply, and those nice POL guys would bring us all the JP4 we needed??

I would rather they treat this for the prank it is rather than an opportunity to permanently jail yet another young American. That would be the adult response. The "rather be safe than sorry" stance is a sheild for the uniformed and weak, not for those who understand youth who seek "out of band" knowledge.

Times change, life is different because of terrorism, the people have spoken, so experiment at your on risk.

I too practiced with black powder in the 70's. Even then the gun shop owners denied me purchase of quanties because they were suspicous of my motives.

I have a freind in that area that has relatives in college. I don't want them hurt or killed because of an "experiment".

They put in some "traffic circles" near me. I'm charging people who stop to stare at them. I only get five bucks if they go around twice.

Re: Georgia Tech explosion: The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone,

The "angry, depressed" young man at OU had several empty plastic bottles in the trunk of his car (as opposed to just rolling around on the floor board in my car due to sloppiness). Is this seperate-thread-worthy?

...things we did in the past are not tolerated any longer - this is an age with heightened security and threats...

These things are no more dangerous now than they were earlier. We have merely traded our freedom for the pretense of security. You sit and cheer this on. It would be tough to have you as a mother ... I'm sure you would "turn me in".

If someone is stupid enough to pull a prank like this, he is too stupid to be out in the real world - let him cool his ass in jail awhile.

From the article linked at #20:

The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled

"Designed to explode when handled." That's the definition of salvage fusing. A fuse doesn't have to be some fancy electronic or mechanical device, but it's a still a fuse, even if it's the design of the overall device that makes it "go off when handled", that is still described as "salvage fusing".
