"Al-Queda can recruit on college campuses but the US military can't!"

There's a bumper sticker right there.

Nice.

I note that the GA Tech device was a "water bottle," and Hinrichs' car was found to contain "plastic bottles..."

Engineering students always rig up "explosive devices". The media needs to get real.

The wheels are starting to come off their story here so hopefully they cannot bury this one forever. I remember that first WTC and until last week I didn't realize it was a Ryder truck either.

Until a week ago, I could not have imagined being so close to a bomb that went off and then being told move on it was nothing. Now I know how people feel that are in the area. At least we were in the open -- I cannot imagine being in a building and have that happen.

All the water bottles around here that I buy to drink are plastic too! :)

I am officially paranoid and I admit it!

As WPtG pointed out to me, this story is a red link on Drudge, and someone was hurt:

'Terrorist Act' on Tech Campus

Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a "terrorist act," an Atlanta police official said.

One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad.

The custodian suffered ringing to the ears and was treated at a local hospital. The events led to a temporary evacuation Monday morning.

"It is a terrorist act at this point and depending on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well," said Major C.W. Moss of the Atlanta Police Department.

The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled. The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to search for suspects.

"It will be a joint investigation between the Atlanta Police Department, the Georgia Tech Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Every possible lead will be followed," said Major Moss.

About 100 students were evacuated from the Cloudman and Glenn dormitories, according to school spokeswoman Amelia Gambino.

Sounds suspicious.

OU was just a good ole white boy committing suicide by setting off a massive bomb near a crowded stadium. (Sarcasm)

If that is true then Fidel Castro is Mother Teresa with a beard, rifle and cammo pants.

It's one hell of an eye-opener when you realize how little you can take at face value, even things universally accepted elsewhere.

Yep. Often "universal acceptance" just means a full-court press has been applied to the spin.

Just damn. I feel sorry for the kids on college campuses these days, having to worry about the many stresses of our society, including Columbine-style massacres and terrorist suicide bombings.

I'd rather be safe than sorry...

Those who will trade liberty for safety will have neither. (Ben Franklin)

Misdimeander prank, yes. Terrorist threat, no.

When I was an inquisitive mind in high school and in college, my buddies and I made and detonated many such harmless devices. It is actually part of the engineering learning process. It is also how the US government gets its own explosives experts.

Americans and their "leaders" seem completely incapable of measured and appropriate response.

I would rather they treat this for the prank it is rather than an opportunity to permanently jail yet another young American. That would be the adult response. The "rather be safe than sorry" stance is a sheild for the uniformed and weak, not for those who understand youth who seek "out of band" knowledge.

We're coming for the beer, and the beer alone. Keep those tools of the devil away! Let the yard go free, and let the beer go with us!
