amazing..a hurricane has formed off the coast of Portugal..this is the first time a known tropical system has formed in the area..and its a hurricane! The odd thing is it formed over water of only 73 degrees or so..which in theory shouldn't even support a tropical depression (need 78+ for tropical systems)..people in the weather world are in shock
All together now: "It's Bush's fault"!!!!
Statement as of 5:00 PM EDT on October 09, 2005
if it looks like a hurricane... it probably is... despite its environment and unusual location. Most available data suggests Vince has been strengthening today. In fact... the CIRA intensity estimate based on the earlier AMSU overpass near 07z was 50 kt and 995 mb... so Vince was probably even a little stronger this morning than indicated in the previous advisory. More recently... metsat-8 imagery reveals that the earlier ragged eye feature with about 20 N mi diameter has contracted to 15 N mi as a Bona fide eye. Some anticyclonic outflow aloft is now discernible around the deep convection... although the convective tops remain a bit warmer than in most hurricanes.
Subjective and objective Dvorak T numbers range from 3.5 to 4.5... with the higher end of this range based on an eye pattern. These estimates provide the basis for the advisory intensity of 65 kt. It is not clear if the surface winds are as strong as the satellite signature would normally suggest... especially since the convection might lack some vigor over the 23-24c SSTs... but we have no data to confirm or deny the Dvorak estimates.
Just saw that
No, its the secret Russian Hurricane weapon.
bushs fault
Yo, Vinnie. ....whaddya doin'?
Well, W is just doing some test runs on his weather machine.
Aw crap! This will be a catergory 14 when it gets here! /sarc
Where's Wilma?
"No, its the secret Russian Hurricane weapon."
Maybe Bush has been playing with the Rovean Weathertron again.
Ping.
It will loop back and run over France.
Rove seems particularly busy with his ACME Instant Hurricane seed packets this year. Hmmmmm...
Based on the fact that this is not usual hurricane territory and that some may be taken by surprise and suffer damage they would not otherwise have incurred had they had proper warning, just how long will it be before it gets blamed on us somehow?
Where is FEMA?! :-)
Maybe it will make the French smell better?
"Oops, so that's where my package went!"
