Bork calls Miers nomination a disaster
MSNBC ^ | October 7, 2005 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 10/08/2005 6:01:01 PM PDT by arnoldpalmerfan

A conservative uproar erupted over President George Bush's recent appointee to the Supreme Court. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. But several key Republican senators say she not the best candidate.

MSNBC-TV's Tucker Carlson talks to former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork about the Harriet Miers' nomination. He says it's, "a disaster on every level" because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever". The nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives.

TUCKER CARLSON, MSNBC HOST: Are you impressed by the president’s choice of Harriet Miers?

A good number of those 30.2% would support any pick the President made.

What a DU elitist statement to make. So you are smart because you can think for yourself but Bushbots, according to you are not so smart. How elitist of you. What makes you different from those in Hollywood?

I also agree %100...Bush deserves our loyalty and I think we need to get behind him and his wisdom. Its much better than the alternative, letting the country fall to liberals and terrorists!

Most conservatives, bot or not, supported Roberts even if they were uncomfortable that he was a STEALTH candidate.

As much as I like and respect Judge Bork, how true.

"Bushbot? I think not. I think though that Bork is pissed because he was, how shall I say it, Borked?"

If that were true he would have been opposed to Roberts. He wasn't.

I wonder how all you BUSH-bots feel about W's efforts to secure our southern borders????? Do you still have the 'faith' there too????

To be honest, I have as much faith in President Bush solving the border issue as I do in Reagan coming back and retracting his amnesty.

I have never used the term "Bushbots," so your elitist label is unfounded and quite uncalled for. If you disagree with the statement and think it untrue, say so-don't just label it.

The reality is that the people supporting Bush on this obvious blunder are such sychopants-- Bush is the elitist. He did this to kiss the hidden hand of the RINO in charge. The same hidden hand that made him put a Chowder head as his Chief of Staff or constantly rehabilitate Bill Clinton. Bush told the troops to go screw themselves-- we're not the elites, we're the people.

What did I try to rationalize away?

Much of the iers support on here is from sycophants who think Bush can do no wrong.

The demonstrated path to sucess. One can't reasonably say the defense is irrational.

meant sycophants... but maybe sicko pants isn't too far off. They way they beat off to this President's every blunderous whim is shocking. I want the President I voted for twice back-- coddling him and making him believe he's on his A game is disastrously bad for him, us and our agenda.

"I'm amazed at the wailing and knashing of teeth at the thought of a Texas sunday school teacher on the court. This is elitism at it worst."

This is cracked logic at its best.

Would you and the 80,000 other Freepers who are calling everyone who advances honest questions about this woman's credentials and abilities quit calling us elitists? I mean, Jesus, is that all you got?

Nonsense. FR is a place for discussion, and that includes genius and fools.

Honestly count the Amendments that have not been trashed.
Now tell me, with a young, liberal majority on the SCOTUS, how would there ever be a reversal of all the perversion of the original Constitution?

They don't grow back by themselves.

Another few years of liberal SCOTUS will be the end of the Republic, which is already on life support.

Roberts and the present nominee absolutely have to be strong originalists. Thats why thinking people see them as so important. They really are life and death.

Now, watch for the stampede of the Bushbots, screaming how DARE you criticise W, for rewarding a loyal buddy with a SCOTUS seat!

That seems to be their only reply.

Personally, I have to admit, this pick is seems to be a disaster. This does not mean Miers is a Souter.

It is a disaster because what it has done to the base, especially considering mid-term elections in '06. Not to foresee that picking a little known candidate recommended by Democrats would have this result is amazing.

However, Bush does know her better than the rest of us. Perhaps this is rope-a-dope, i.e. "hey look Karl, they have Harriet on their list Ha Ha Ha", and she will turn out to be a Scalia. If this is the case, lets hope it is apparent before Nov. 2006. There are a lot of elected conservatives, more conservative than Bush, whose fate hangs on this pick being right.

As for Bork, Kristol et al, they have been in the game a long time and are tired of being Soutered. They may not being "loyal" members of the Bush camp, but they are loyal members of the conservative moment. That does not make them RINOs.

Lets hope not, but from education (with kennedy) to prescription coverage (expanding gov in healthcare)..
to almost treasonous inaction of illegal immigration and the open borders to now this worrisome pick for SCOTUS..all the above support your statement. very troubling.
