The NYPD's War On Terror
Frustrated by the lack of help from Washington, police commissioner Ray Kelly has created his own versions of the CIA and the FBI within the department. So how will we know if he has succeeded? If nothing happens.

EMP Biot #242: Commissioner Kellys NYPD Terrorism Beat: A Compelling Approach to Countering Terrorism
July 24, 2005
The July 25, 2005 of The New Yorker magazine contains The Terrorism Beat: How is the NYPD defending the city?, which is journalist William Finnegans first-person narrative about his observations on one municipalitys compelling approach to terrorism prevention and preparedness (pp. 58-71). Finnegan spent his first morning in One Police Plaza in the executive command center for the briefing on overnight developments related to terrorist between Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence David Cohen, and Deputy Commissioner for Counter Terrorism Michael Sheehan. These three individuals are no wet-behind-the-ears, shrinking violets. They have impeccable credentials, incomparable experience, and a rare combination of expertise in multiple areas relevant to fighting terrorism.

Wonder if both reports are accurate or if there are multiple threats?<<<<<<
Be sure to follow the links that I posted all night on the Threat Matrix, there are 2 from the Army College.
I kept following my alerts and coming up with articles, with different opinions on how many active groups there are.
It appears that so many splinter groups have sprung up that there may no longer be a master controlling them.
If you read Cindy's war posts, you will find brand new groups, setting bombs in Iraq and being arrested.
It may be the effort to control them that keeps Zawahiri sending the message that OBL will appear in October "after the big strike"........
I found one post at Jihadunspun that was a BBC article on a terrorist that had been arrested and had also been a source of information to us.... As if they did not know he was arrested.

Hannity reports a news organization knew about this before today but didn't report it.
The Feds knew on Monday, this is Thursday.

Okay, me too :). As a pragmatic matter, I just believe in ducking from the blast first, then finding out who did it, then beating the living stuffing out of them. Nothing beats the perceptions game like OBL running from the field of battle for his life, telling all of his compatriots they're cowards for running from the US military.

checking in. thanks to all for the kind words.
police activity was high everywhere within the transportation system.

Y'know, the object of terrorism and the desire of terrorists is to instill terror. To that end, the threat will suffice. It throws people into a tizzy, daily routines into confusion, and causes expenditures of manpower and money. When the attack doesn't materialize, well, there we go, crying wolf again. The terrorists just go to ground until the security slacks off.The Koran doesn't say anything about instilling terror or disrupting our lifestyle. The goal is to end our society by killing or converting us.
Though I do agree, there is strategic value in crying wolf.

"Lake County, Ind. Bomb Squad Blows Up Car Loaded With Explosives"
Thursday, October 06, 2005, 2:42 a.m.
by Steve Grzanich and Andrew Giersher
WBBM Newsradio 780
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A bomb discovered in the vehicle in which the man and woman were riding was detonated by police along the shoulder of Cline Avenue in East Chicago, Indiana.
Police were initially called to the location at the Cline Avenue exit near Buffington Harbor after passersby reported seeing the man and woman in a physical confrontation. Officers arrested the man after finding the woman badly beaten. But thats not all police found."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "It was a pretty good sized explosion, said Mike Howard, a tour bus driver ferrying 49 passengers to the nearby casinos. Asked about the reaction of his passengers, he told Newsradio 780, It was like wow! We saw the flash and then I saw the burning after the explosion. We felt the concussion of the explosion all throughout the bus."

"Okay, why is this breaking news when there was an actual suicide bombing attempt in Oklahoma that is being kept off the National Airwaves?"
Because OK is flyover country to most elites.
They live in NY

Good to hear from you. I cannot imagine how stressful it must be to have to rely on the subway for transportation these days.

its random.
and if you look at an NYC subway map - there are many very quiet places to enter the train system in the outer boroughs which likely have no security at all.

Who in the world is this guy -- I thought I knew most of the OK Freepers? Sounds like another one of the ones we have had on those threads trying to get us to say he is just a depressed kid who blew himself up.
To: WestCoastGal
I am not surprised that it has been known for several days,
look at what we have dug up.
Remember the Texas travelers last months, they were headed east.
If they had names or locations of the cells, then they would have kept it quite, once the news is out, they will go into hiding.
(I think)

I have some flexibility in my work travel - car, trains, work from home - I plan on being very "flexible" the next few days just in case. yes, I know I am wimping out. just talked to a friend who switched off and took the express bus home tonight - I imagine alot of people will be doing that.
To: RDTF
Interesting given the fact that the NYC threat involves men with briefcases and women with baby strollers. I wonder if it was a male and female AQ team. Nothing about the race of the perps?

That was the number that nutbag Farrakhan was ranting about
the day of the "million" man march.
