How much money would be lost by not opening business though? We already have one major American city not functioning... we can't let another go offline for a threat. As someone else said, if they close down tomorrow, why would the would be evil guys not just wait till Monday?

Right - and also it is important for them to see that the only reaction from us is us getting tougher, not weaker and in 'fear' of them.

Maybe by Monday we'd unravel this a little actually more? I am sure the city would not be offline because of a holiday, but the terrorists report of their great accomplishment might be blunted by fewer body bags.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm not looking for a response. Just wanted to let Allen know the some of us are paying attention to how he is voting.

I'll fire up the ol fax machine and have the note ready for his intern to toss on Tuesday.

That reminds me of the crazy numbers games people play to try to prove the pyramids were built by aliens.

'Chilling' Al Qaeda Memo Obtained (Zawahiri to Zarqavi: "Can you hear me now?")
CBS News ^ | Oct. 6, 2005 | CBS Broadcasting Inc.

Posted on 10/06/2005 5:38:22 PM PDT by indcons

The U.S. has obtained a 13-page letter written by Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al Zawahiri, to Abu Musab al Zarqawi in Iraq, outlining with what one senior official calls "chilling clarity" al Qaeda's stretagy for Iraq and beyond, reports CBS News national security correspondent David Martin.

The letter, which was written shortly after the London bombings in July, calls Iraq "the place for the greatest battle of Islam in this era."

Zarqawi is America's most-wanted insurgent in Iraq. Zawahiri, the man most intelligence analysts believe is the brains behind bin Laden and his al Qaeda terrorist organization, is considered the world's second most wanted man.

As outlined by Zawahiri in the letter, al Qaeda's battle plan calls for driving the Americans out of Iraq, establishing an Islamic regime in as much of the country as possible and then extending the holy war to other Arab countries, including Egypt, Lebanon and Syria.

In the letter, Zawahari complains to Zarqawi that some of his violent tactics are hurting public support for al Qaeda's cause, particularly the videotaped beheadings of hostages.

I am not suggesting weakness. To the contrary. A tactical punt is done to survive to pummel them later. But if I worked in NYC, I'd take tomorrow off if that was possible. I'd go there if it wasn't. And if I was the mayor, I'd figure that a missed day's work by City admins isn't going to break the US economy.

you know this just reeks of another nasty Karl Rove manipulation...take the heat and spotlight off him by faking another terrorist threat... (sarc. on big time)

So you think that the mayor should have just announced on TV that all non essential personnel take the day off? The same tv that terrorists watch? Are you serious? You need to understand perception and how important it is in this war against these nutcases. Have you not paid any attention at all to how Isreal stood up to the suicide bombers?

"You think the comment at the presser about "already disrupted" a part of the apparent planned attack was to scare cells into not acting?"

I sure hope so.

Yes, college freshman do commit suicide quite often-the news in Tulsa made it seem it was a depressed college student----
my reply had nothing to do with me taking a nap-I don't see any point in speculation...besides even when there was PROOF terrorists were responsible for and WERE seen IN THE RIDER TRUCK with Timothy McVafee NOTHING CAME OF IT!!

Do we need to start a NYC check-in like the hurricane threads did?

"Iraqi insurgents were recently arrested during a raid by a joint FBI-CIA team"

Maybe I'm missing something here. FBI-CIA informs NYC about Do-ra-mi, and then someone from DHS says the threat isn't credible, but FBI-CIA works for DHS. At least I thought they did after 100 million dollars, or however much that took. Can't Bush grab these guys together and say, "Uh..guys lets talk about this. It isn't playing well." CIA Guy: "But Mr. President, It's a slam dunk!"

Yeah I am serious. I care less about perceptions than reality, especially those infantile perceptions of Muslim fanatic terrorists that seem to defy commen sense. If this threat is real and time-critical, better to act aggressively to thwart it while advising people of the real possibility that if they come here and use the subway they might be killed, then to say (perhaps falsely) that we'll protect you, don't be worried, we're just posting this elevated warning to protect ourselves from possible recriminations later.
