Because not enough Americans have been killed yet to make our leaders face up too what we already know. No islam, know peace.

Heightened After Word Of Threat To Transit System

POSTED: 5:12 pm EDT October 6, 2005
UPDATED: 6:02 pm EDT October 6, 2005

NEW YORK -- Authorities stepped up security on the city's mass transit system Thursday after receiving a credible threat that the New York City subway may be the target of a terrorist attack in the coming days.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared at a news conference alongside Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly in which they announced the threat, which they said originated overseas. Bloomberg said it was the most specific threat New York officials had received to date; no one in New York has been arrested, he said.

A law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the threat is "specific to place, time and method," and that the method is bombing.

"We have done and will continue to do everything we can to protect this city," Bloomberg said, adding that he planned to take the subway home Thursday night. "We will spare no resource, we will spare no expense. We have increased our police presence on our subways."

Kelly asked the public to report suspicious people or activities. Police planned to start looking through bags, brief cases, baby strollers and luggage as they launched a large-scale search of New York's mass transit system.

"We have never had before a specific threat to our subway system," Bloomberg said. "Its importance was enhanced above the normal level by the detail that was available to us from intelligence sources."

New York's security level remained at orange, the same level it has stayed at since Sept. 11.

An estimated 4.5 million passengers ride the New York subway on an average weekday. The system has more than 468 subway stations.

I wonder whether the insurgent would have disclosed the threat if he had been interrogated subject to the restrictions in the legislation that the Senate passed yesterday.

Captured insurgent: "There are suitcase bombs in the New York City subway! Anthrax in Washington, D.C.! A dirty nuke in the San Andreas Fault outside Los Angeles! You want to know more? I tell you more! I know the cave where Osama is in Pakistan! Just please -- don't put those panties on my head!!!"

New York is a strange city. 20 fire trucks could roar down the street and no one would flinch. But tweek them a little bit and they can be the most observant people on earth, picking out the tiniest detail which is "out of order".

Bet they're getting thousands of calls.

how about, in coming hours even? If they thought it was next week...I don't think they'd be making an announcement this far ahead.

That was the site where the first WTC bombing was planned, in concert with the one in New Jersey operated by the "Blind Sheikh."

They wouldn't make an announcement, beef up security, ask people to voluntarily leave home briefcases, baby strollers, etc., unless there was a credible threat and they hadn't caught everyone and were certain the plan was completely disrupted.

Yes, and there are all those NYPD units to explain. IMO, they're playing both ends... don't exasperate the citizens to keep things moving along, but there is a threat, or they'd all be searching for donuts instead. That's the disconnect.

I'd sure take it seriously.

The CNN eMail I got quoted Kelly as saying that after receiving a credible threat that the New York City subway may be the target of a terrorist attack "in the coming days".

They would to beat the press. The press has known for two days and was asked to hold the information. I suspect whichever media entity had it gave the government two days before it would be published.

Yup,I just wonder how many bus bombings it will take, how many more buildings will fall, how many kids will be taken hostage before something is "really" done. But, give it time, they (Muslim terrorists) won't be stopping any time soon. They have more bomb fodder too feast upon. (The rest of us.....)

Fox's John Gibson said the information is credible but the source is NOT credible.

As Gibson says "what do you do in this situation?"

It makes me think of the Denzel Washington Bruce Willis movie that takes place in NY - pretty good flick about how these cells operate.

It wouldn't be the first time.

Though they're asserting that this was the most specific threat they've received post-Sept 11th.

Not good news.
