Ex-president Bill Clinton is predicting that the U.S. will lose the war in Iraq, saying "the odds are not great of our prevailing there."
In an interview with the Ladies Home Journal due out next month, Clinton calls the Iraq war "a quagmire" and warns "it could go wrong."
He reminded: "Since the end of World War II, the only major foreign power that succeeded in putting down an insurgency was the British putting down the Malay insurgency, but the British stayed 15 years."
"So you can say for historical reasons, the odds are not great of our prevailing there," he argued.
Despite Clinton's prediction of U.S. failure, he said analogies to Vietnam were not fair. "The reason this is not Vietnam is that 58 percent of the eligible voters showed up and voted in Iraq," he told the Journal.
On the other hand, he said, the South Vietnamese government was "never legitimate" in the eyes of the Vietnamese.
Clinton spokesman Jay Carson immediately sought to tone down the ex-president morale-busting remarks, telling the New York Daily News:
"President Clinton has always been clear that there are reasons for optimism and that there clearly are reasons for concern with the current situation in Iraq. But no one has been clearer than President Clinton about the necessity of winning now that we are there."
Spoken like the true draft-dodging, coke-snorting, philandering, treasonous rapist that he is.
Bill Clinton is still building his legacy.
Shut up, Bill. You're not the President anymore. And you're making the job of American servicemen and women (oh, by the way, you didn't serve) that much harder.
"Bill Clinton is still building his legacy."
I think you are right - these moves do not seem to be calculated to help hillary.
"As a professor I know used to say with regard to incorrect answers on exams, 'Wishing won't make it so.'"
This is the quote to which I responded. I read it incorrectly. Please forgive me.
Ah, yes, General Clinton, the world's greatest military expert, speaks! I would suggest that before speaking on things military, His Slickness (who is on record as loathing anything military) should go through a condensed version of basic training. Who knows? A few weeks of exercise, good food, and not nailing next-door neighbors might do him some good. He might even learn how to salute.
709,000 active duty military personnel; 293,000 reservists; 8 standing Army divisions; 20 Air Force and Naval Air Wings, consisting of 2,000 combat aircraft; 232 strategic bombers; 13 ballistic missile submarines; 4 aircraft carriers; 121 surface combat ships and submarines, and the bases to support that naval force.
RUSSIA? GREAT BRITAIN? RED CHINA?
Shameful, just shameful. Going there was to clean up his mess in the first place.
LOL!!!!!
That graphic was GREAT! (can I steal it?)
Please do.
And Thanks!
Thank you for your examples. But, isn't what we are doing also analgous to supporting a host nation's efforts to defeat an insurgency? We have had a lot of success at that: the Philippines, El Salvador, Columbia, Boliva and currently in Afghanistan - just off the top of my head.
The former rapist-in-chief limits his self-serving theory to after World War II, when colonialism was out of fashion and a major power was more likely to divest itself of colonies than it was to fight to retain them.
Don't you like how well your strategery of a "new tone" has paid off, Mr. President? Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Hillary. They all love you.
Making a "friend" out of a felon, presenting him to the United States as if he was an honorable person. For what?
Getting all chummy-chum with a treasonous rapist who sold our nuclear secrets to our enemies, and expecting him to be loyal to you. How naive.
Or, as I always heard it, "lie down with dogs, get up with fleas."
The lecherous fool will not admit that The Republic of Vietnam was not defeated by an insurgency. The Viet Cong insurgency had been eliminated by the end of the Vietnam War and played no part in the communist victory. The Republic of Vietnam was defeated by a numerically superior conventional army that invaded across their border and crushed them.
May God damn forever the Democrat controlled 93rd U.S. Congress that made this communist victory possible.
Hey, Bubba, when are we going to "win" in Kosovo?
I know you said the troops would be home by Christmas - just not which Christmas, right?
