GAY rights groups have called for a councillor to resign after he asked why "queers have to parade about in public".
Independent councillor Duncan Maclean made the comments after trying to stop same-sex marriage ceremonies from going ahead in registry offices and other venues.
Speaking to the Evening News today, he claimed his opinions were not offensive as none of his voters were gay. But equality campaigners and gay rights groups said they were stunned and outraged by his views.
The Armadale West councillor failed to find a seconder for his motion against the proposals on Monday afternoon, when councillors agreed to the holding of gay marriage ceremonies at registry offices and approved venues. He said fellow West Lothian councillors should "hang their heads in shame" after giving the green light to gay marriage ceremonies.
Cllr Maclean said today: "It's political correctness gone mad. As the Bible teaches, 'wrong-doers will not inherit the kingdom of God', and this includes lesbians and gays. If these people want to enter into a formal commitment, why don't they go to a lawyer and get them to sign a formal legal document? Why do these queers have to parade about in public?"
A spokesman for gay rights group Outrage said: "This councillor needs to get his act together. The world has changed. He's not the best person to be representing people in his constituency. He would be doing everyone a favour if he stepped down."
From December 5, two people of the same sex will be allowed to enter into a civil partnership by going through a registration procedure similar to that for a civil marriage. The Civil Partnership Act states that local authorities only need to provide a registration facility, but West Lothian has now gone a stage further in allowing a form of ceremony to be held.
Cllr Maclean added: "I don't think I am offending any of my constituents as I know for a fact that none of my voters are gay.
"I've got nothing to say to gay rights groups who are complaining about my comments - there shouldn't be any gay rights groups anyway. I'll not stand down."
A spokesman for the National Equality Network said: "Opposition to ceremonies is sending a message out saying 'we don't want people to be happy'. It's a very petty form of opposition."
Robin Scott, 58 and Jean Philippe, 38, are co-owners of the Claremont Bar in East Claremont Street, Edinburgh, and want to open up their pub as one of the first venues in Edinburgh to hold gay ceremonies this December.
Mr Scott said: "The Scottish Executive is in favour of gay ceremonies and so is the Registrar General so I think this councillor is in the minority."
Yesterday at the Conservative party conference, gay Tory front-bencher Alan Duncan attacked Conservative-controlled councils who were trying to block civil partnerships for heterosexuals and homosexuals.
" But equality campaigners and gay rights groups said they were stunned and outraged by his views. "
I'm stunned by homosexuals calling themselves "gay". What's gay about them?
I call for all members of GAY rights groups to give up their perversions and go straight after they called for a councillor to resign after he asked why "queers have to parade about in public".
Whats the difference? Are they particularly special or something? Very sensitive, anyway
I noticed that they never did answer his question.
You gotta admit - it's a good question.
Yes, why do they parade around in public?
If these people want to enter into a formal commitment, why don't they go to a lawyer and get them to sign a formal legal document?
&&
Exactly. But that makes too much sense, sir, so you won't be in politics much longer.
"As the Bible teaches, 'wrong-doers will not inherit the kingdom of God', and this includes lesbians and gays. If these people want to enter into a formal commitment, why don't they go to a lawyer and get them to sign a formal legal document?"
Pretty sure that the bible doesn't concern itself at all with registry offices...
Because they are the Master Race. Just ask them. Soon it will be a Hate Crime in San Francisco to not step off the sidewalk as a gay couple passes. And avert your eyes.
What's the point of having sequined Spandex leotards and feather boas if you don't show them off?....:)
Seriously though, it's a complex over-compensation psychological thing.
They feel the need to "parade" because in doing so, they are attempting to reinforce their "normality" in their own minds.
Subconsciously they feel that if they're *legally* allowed to act like that in public, the legality gives them "moral" vindication.
It's really all about assuaging their internal guilt, no matter how deeply repressed it may be.
Look at it this way; as a heterosexual, do *you* feel the need to have "Straight Pride" parades or little bumpers stickers saying "I'm Here. I'm Not Queer. Get Used To It"?
Of course not...because *you* don't have a complex or a guilty conscience about being hetero....:)
Just think...10 years from now, we'll probably be hearing Pedophile Pride parades.
because they like attention
I think it just boils down to a communications misunderstanding.
The question should have been phrased 'Why do the queers need to PRANCE about in public'.
I wish "the love that dares not speak its name" would go back in the closet.
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
Duncan Maclean, our kind of guy. I wish there was some way we could contact him and say "Well done! Well said! Are you raising children with your values? If not, please get started!"
So now anyone who is opposed to "gay marriage" is - horror of horrors - against other peoples' happiness! What a crime.
People, please read the article pinged last night about the pro-"gay" bills that Arnold S. signed. So he vetoed "gay" marriage, big deal. He then signed 4 other bills giving homosexuals more special protection than marriage by that name would have given.
How much more will we be forced to swallow? It is very interesting how about 2% of the population has gotten just about half (well, less than half - in every state where actual people are allowed to vote about "gay" marriage it's gone down in flames) the people to kiss up to their psychosis?
It's a long topic. But there is mental and spiritual sickness involved, leftist agendas involved. It is rank, it stinks, and it needs to be turned around.
Freepmail me AND DirtyHarryY2K if you want on/off this pinglist.
Now it's "the Love that Will Not Shut Up."
How refreshing! Usually, in stories like this, the person who made the "offensive" remarks cries and grovels and steps down from his job and begs forgiveness.
Remember, kids: "I'm offended" trumps the First Amendment.
Very little. They are usually the most miserable bunch of Sad Sacks a person can run across. I think they are pushing issues because they want the rest of us to be as miserable and wretched as they are.
Maclean's comments are refreshing and straightforward. So NO WONDER "gays" are upset about the comments and Maclean for being so straighforward and direct.
His comments cut through the otherwise intimidation that too many (I agree with Maclean about this part, too) "gay rights groups" have managed to use to insult anyone who dared to be other-than-gays-are. In other words, the rest of society has been brow beaten by gays into not speaking up, losing our very right of free speech.
Like I've written before, I'm eager to see "hate crime legislation" enacted that will prohibit gays from their hate speech about others. Of course, that means they will no longer be able to insult anyone as to their dress, the colors of their homes, how they eat and what, what entertainment they view or don't, the churches they attend and why...
