Dr. Henry “Fritz” Schaefer, the Graham Perdue professor of Chemistry and the director of the Center for Computational Quantum Chemistry at the University of Georgia, gave a presentation Tuesday night about the convergence of science and Christianity.

Schaefer is a five-time Nobel Prize nominee, according to The U.S. News and World Report. He is the sixth most-cited scientist in the world, and he is the author of more than 1,000 scientific publications.

He lectured on the Big Bang Theory, Stephen Hawking and God to a crowd of nearly 800 people at the Seretean Center Concert Hall.

It wasn't flamebait. It was an observation. There are dozens of regulars on science threads who reject the age of the universe as determined my mainstream science.

Because people act on their beliefs - it's often called faith - and it doesn't have to be scientifically proven to matter. One obvious example is radical Islam. Is there any proof of what they believe? NO! Does it matter that they believe their holy purpose on earth is to kill Jews and Christians and other less radical Muslims? HELL YES, IT MATTERS because people act on their beliefs! You really didn't know this?!!!

Thank you. I will admit to not being a smart as many on here and I have learned a lot from others. However, when the name-calling starts (you know who you are), I ignore them. There are a couple I don't respond to because of that. There is no reason we can't debate the issues without resorting to calling each other names. We should be above that.

Good point. Neither evolution nor creationism can be proved. Best, then, that neither be taught in our schools.

Neither, or both, doesn't matter to me. Let the class determine what is discussed, but the fact that none of it can be proven, should be brought out.
