Vilsack to trade in SUV for hybrid

DES MOINES, IA - Gov. Tom Vilsack will trade in his gas guzzling sports utility vehicle for a more fuel efficient hybrid vehicle, his spokesman said.

Vilsack spokesman Matt Paul said the governor plans to get rid of his 2005 GMC Yukon, which gets 13 miles per gallon, according to Consumer Reports, for a new flexible fuel SUV, which runs on E85, a gas-ethanol blend.

E85 is cheaper than the 10-percent ethanol blend and regular unleaded gas sold at most stations. The fuel is only sold at about 20 stations statewide

Does Vilsack run any other vehicles? If so, will he be turning those in, too?

Iowa is a fairly large state. The Guv is going to have to send a flunky on frequent overnight road trips to fill up at each of the 20 stations that sell fuel so as not to appear to be playing favorites!

Here's a question:

Is one SUV that gets 13 mpg the same as two Taurus' that get 26 mpg?

Actually, my wife's 2005 Yukon (with a 5.3 liter V-8) gets 18.6 MPG. Seems someone has a heavy foot!

Since when have flex-fuel vehicles been called hybrids?

All show. Everything phony-balony Bal-sack does is for publicity. I doubt he's had one original thought in twenty years that hasn't been passed by a focus group or weighed against the latest poll.

"The fuel is only sold at about 20 stations statewide"

No problem. He can have it flown in. :)

I hope Teacher's Pet Tom doesn't need any of that special fuel while visiting places like Steamboat Rock or Worthington, 'cause he won't find it there. Actually, since T.P. took Terrace Hill, there isn't much of anything to find in Iowa.

A Flexible Fuel vehicle is not a hybrid. This headline is all wrong. Typical uninformed media type, screwing up again.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts the motorpool has this thing running on 100% regular unleaded 99% of the time.

In my way of thinking, MPG is not anywhere near as important as GPY (gallons per year).

Simply riding a bicycle to work significantly improves my GPY (and it doesn't involve taking a bath at a car dealership).

WAIT UNTIL THE STRAW MAN FINDS OUT THAT THE HYBRID ACTUALLY MUST RUN ON FUEL OTHER THAN ELECTRICITY

OK, but someone else will end up owning (thus driving) his old SUV. If he wasn't so full of feces, he would dismantle and recycle it so no one else could drive it.
