The male nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) faces an aggressive - and bigger - female when he feels the need to mate. That's a common problem for a lot of spider species. Here's a photo I took of a male and female Orb-Weaver spider. I saw the male enter the web and slooowly sidle up to the female, and work his way around her a bit, but he was taking his time so carefully that I finally gave up watching after about 45 minutes. He was carefully being extremely cautious. And this isn't magnified very much, she was frickin' huge, about as big across as the palm of my hand (including legs, of course).
