WASHINGTON -- Senators beginning what ought to be a protracted and exacting scrutiny of Harriet Miers should be guided by three rules. First, it is not important that she be confirmed. Second, it might be very important that she not be. Third, the presumption -- perhaps rebuttable but certainly in need of rebutting -- should be that her nomination is not a defensible exercise of presidential discretion to which senatorial deference is due.

Even worse, were conservatives that demand documented, tried and true, proven conservatives with a track records when critical positions such as this are at stake.

Somehow a known quantity is impossible to confirmed.

Somehow Clinton got his publicly liberal nominees through the confirmation process.

I helped elect President Bush twice. But I didn't do so to have him recklessly nominate a Souter-In-A-Skirt to a lifetime position on the SCOTUS.

How in in blazes do you know that she is a " Souter-In-A-Skirt"?

Bush said that Harriet was the most qualified woman for the job. None of the supporters of this nomination will come out and agree with him. If they won't agree with him, then why should they trust him? I guess it's because he knows her so well!

I know, it happens. ;) I realized that after the fact too. When one has to debate emotionally ignorant people, 'hit happens. LOL

You kids play nice now. The grown ups are leaving. Just remember to use mittens and stay away from the sharp objects.

Ya, except it was not the constitution, but the declaration of indepedence, and the promise of the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, which to Keyes meant anti abortion, because fetuses = human life. That about summed it up. I found it an entirely unsatisfactory performance.
