Conservative Movement Is Dead (Freedom Loving Americans Politically Homeless Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 10/04/05 | Joseph Farah

Posted on 10/03/2005 10:38:40 PM PDT by goldstategop

hereby officially pronounce the conservative movement dead.

May it rest in peace.

It was killed by its faith in men, not principles – men like George W. Bush.

The appointments of John Roberts as chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and Harriet Miers as associate justice serve as the epitaphs for the political movement.

But even before these betrayals, conservatism was on life support.

It could not have survived the irresponsible spending by the Republican Congress, approved by the president during the last five years.

The conservative movement, in the best of times, represented a defensive effort to slow the trend toward unconstitutional, unlimited, centralized, Washington-based government.

Today, it represents, at best, only the hope of a slightly slower trend toward socialism and tyranny.

Let me state this plainly, as I do in my new updated, paperback edition of "Taking America Back": If Republicans filled every seat in the U.S. Congress and maintained control of the presidency, unconstitutional government would continue in Washington unchecked.

The confirmation of that fact came last week when former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay explained there was absolutely no place to cut the bloated federal budget. He said Republicans had done such a good job reining in government spending over the last decade, there was no fat left.

For those who still revere and love the U.S. Constitution, freedom and the goal of self-government, the death of the conservative movement might seem like a bad thing. I would submit to you it may be a necessary development to restoring the American Dream.

As long as the totality of political alternatives for the American people are represented by the Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, the drift away from the unique founding principles of American sovereignty and liberty will inevitably continue.

Quite frankly, it's time for some new creative thinking among Americans who still value what made America great.

No amount of defensive wrangling will be enough to preserve or restore our free republic.

It's time to think outside the box. It's time to exercise some courage and boldness. It's time to realize no war is won fighting defensively – trying in vain to hold on to old turf with no attempt to win new turf. It's time for freedom-lovers to reframe their political objectives. It's time to set goals for expanding liberty and morality, not just beating back relentless attempts to rob us of them.

Are you looking for new strategies, new tactics? Do you see that conservatism has only lost ground for the last 17 years? Do you understand we need to do more than work to elect politicians to represent us in Washington? Do you agree that the corruption of our system now runs too deep?

This may sound alarmist to some: But, at this point in history, Americans are less free than we were under the Crown of England.

Do any of us have the courage and convictions of our Founders? How many of us are willing to risk our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor for the cause of freedom today?

That is my challenge to you today.

We can complain about out-of-control government for the rest of our lives. We can continue to watch our liberty slip away. We can leave our children and grandchildren a society far worse off than the one which we inherited from our parents and grandparents. Or we stand up to the tyranny, get organized, set goals for expanding freedom, reclaiming ground robbed from us and set above rebuilding that shining city on a hill.

I don't pretend to have all the answers. If any man does, don't believe him. But I can read the handwriting on the wall. The political system in America is broken. It cannot be repaired with a little tinkering. Freedom-loving Americans need to realize they don't have a political party that represents them. Freedom-loving Americans need to realize they don't have a political movement that represents them.

Nothing could be clearer to me. How about you?

Let's not wring our hands over the latest Supreme Court nomination. Let's not whine about spending by the Republican Congress and president. Let's not mourn the death of conservatism. Let's get organized to build a new freedom movement with an offensive strategy and the goal of taking our country back.

Reid has got his own troubles brewing in River City. I'm not surprised he applauded the Miers nomination.

"Does it really matter which train we take to get to socialism and tyranny?"

I believe that the only valid solution to this problem is term limits. W/ term limits we can abolish the IRS, otherwise that despicable, unconstitutional organiztion will continue to extort Americans and to confiscate private property.

Term limits is poison to the current Rep/Dem power structure and the money that props them up. That is why the gov. moved in concert to deep six every attempt to inhstitute TL back in the 90s. We must redouble our efforts along that path.

If conservatism isn't on it's way out than explain why the overspending, BIGGER government, and why Welfare programs have been enlarged.

There's a definite feeling that Republicans are under siege.

--Oh good Lord. Go vote for Hillary then. Sheesh!---

And here we see an illustration of the 'battered republican syndrome'.

How long until we have had "enough" and move out?

But hey, a Republican is doing it so we can be complacent in the relentless growth of government and the continued erosion of our God-given freedoms.

Well, yeah, that's the plan.

These moronic threads bashing the president need to be saved for all eternity so that when the hysteria is over we can reflect back and assure ourselves we will not act this stupid again.

Sort of like an ex-smoker keeping a jar full of cigarette butts and water, open the lid and take a sniff and your desire will dissipate very quickly.

I haven't seen this much over the top chicken little hand wringing since the MSM tried to dupe us with early exit polling during the 2004 election.

Re: the War on Terror, we should tighten up our border security & kick out all illegal aliens & sympthizers w/ our terrorist enemies--& charge those who have given monetary or any other kind of support to the Islamic fundamentalists w/ treason & give them the death penalty if found guilty.

We should have never gone into Iraq (the Constitution requires for a declaration of war to be made, & that never happened); & although I am strongly opposed to making major changes to the Posse Comitatus Act, I would support a change in the law that would allow for the use of our military along the Mexican/Canadian borders.

I have no prob w/ our forces rooting out the Taliban in Afghanistan, but they BLEW IT when they didn't get bin Laden @ Tora Bora....whether that was done by design or not I have no idea (I wouldn't be one bit surprized if letting him escape into Pakistan was done intentionally). Congress should write Letters of Marque & Reprisal for allowing private bounty hunters to go into Pakistan & catch him & al Queda's #2.

We should stop sending ALL foreign aid, PERIOD--whether it be to Arab countries, Africa, Israel, or wherever. GET US OUT of the UN (& NATO, too--Europe can fend for itself), & kick the UN out of the US.

I agree with this statement. I believe GW is the worse thing to happen to the Republican party, and conservative movement, ever.

Meg - look at what we had when Clinton was Pres and the Republicans controlled congress - it worked really well! We had spending in control, effective welfare reform, big ideas moved forward.

With the Republicans running everything, it is a nightmare. Republicans used to stand for individual liberties, fiscal responsibility, and smaller government. Now, they seem to stand for whatever might keep them in power longer.

Working for the opposition is an effective way to bring change. The current Republican leaders are not conservative and are not doing their job. Working to get incompetent elected officials removed from their jobs is a sensible approach to the current disaster.

No, it's because we are a two party country. THAT is the fact. Democrat versus Republicans.

Third party fringers have sideline seats... they're unelectable malcontents.

Thinking like this will most assuredly perpetuate the malaise.

I prefer to continue working for the correct candidates at the grassroots level and remaining optimistic.

The Rats are activating all their undercover operatives on FR.

For my part, I intend to send a message to elected national officials by working for the opposition, whoever they are. The current set of politicians are failing miserably and deserve to be fired (only exception would be if Jeb ran - I think he would do a much better job than GWB).

Case in point!

What you see as malaise, I see as robust. The country is almost evenly divided. That leaves the fringe parties on the outsdie looking in. GOOD place for 'em.

And you know that this mirror can be turned around on FR, right? Can there be any doubt that there are several agents provocateurs among us? Seriously. Can there be any doubt about this?

Time to loosen up the tin foil.

"The country is almost evenly divided."

Apparently you think that allowing the Democrats an even chance is "fair play". I don't want to give them another chance at power, ever!

Why can't a majority of conservatives kick their butts out for good?

I can't stomach the thought of engaging in "civil discourse" with a bunch of lying, cheating socialists who would do this great country in at the drop of a hat. Screw'em I say!

Go ahead and try to defend the Democrats' "right" to a place at the table, I dare ya!

Not even close....I'm a Bush-basher from the RIGHT, one who despises John Kerry, Michael Moore & their progressive (i.e., "semi-communist") ilk.

While I'm very thankful that John Kerry wasn't elected President, there is no need to hyperventilate w/ laughter & joy about the way President Bush is doing his job. Both of them are internationalists, members of Yale's Skull & Bones, & care little about the sovereignty of the US.

The road to world government is still being built, albeit @ a slower pace under President Bush than Senator Kerry.
