Miers said to be on `extreme end' of pro-life movement

As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989.

"She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement," said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers' first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.

"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."

My FRiend, I strongly disagree with you on this.

President Bush knows Miers - this is not a "blank slate" to him. The views of Luttig (for example) are probably far less familiar to him than the views of Miers.

This is not ducking a fight - it is nominating the person he wants on the court.

( by the way: You'll see plenty of fight from the Demodogs in the next weeks )

What's your source for progun?

I am looking for the source.

After a particular shooting, she stated that we cannot give up our "precious liberties" simply because of one person who abused that right.

Has the time of her hearings been announced as of yet?

Maybe she will be asked about her statement that the NRO has quoted her stating she believes same sex couples should be given the same rights to adopt.

This aint your Scalia Thomas. I need a beer for breakfast after getting stabbed by my President.

According to you, Patton was a coward because he focused on outmaneuvering the enemy, rather than plowing right through them.

Patton didn't run from the fight. And Patton also believed that some goals were worth the cost. Some things are worth fighting for. I've yet to see what conservative value President Bush is willing to stand up and fight for. I had hoped that the highest court in the land was one of them. I was wrong.

Schumer is used to working with Miers in her capacity as White House Counsel, and I seriously doubt he has any more insight into her positions than we do.

"Bartos said Miers told her she was "pro-choice in her youth" but underwent "a born-again, profound experience" that caused her to oppose abortion. "

STop the pro-choice crap. We are all pro-choice. You are either pro-life or pro-abortion.

Patton didn't run from the fight.

Indeed, he didn't run from the fight. He manuevered around the enemy, surrounded them, and forced them to surrender. Bush is doing the same thing.

Try waiting for information on Miers before you start the wrist-slashing.

I wonder. Do you think it peculiar that someone who worked on Miers' campaign would use the phrase "anti-choice"?

Or is it possible that the author changed the phrase from "pro-life"?

I dunno... I was listening to his bite. He didn't sound all that happy, he sounded scared. Planned Barrenhood soounded the least happy yesterday. If she is really pro-life this will go a long way toward winning me over. Note: It was Mrs. Roberts pro-life activism and their (apparently real) Roman Catholicism that attracted me to the Roberts once I got to know them a little better.

"For thousands of years the concept of killing your baby before it was born was reprehensible."

Perhaps, though I'm doubtful you could cite to much support for that claim. But it was not illegal.

The information has been available for 11 years. You haven't re-researched it now that it became relevant again. Yet you jump from thread to thread calling others here ignorant of the facts.

Get with the program.

And if I were you...I SHOW LESS STUPIDITY. Its well known that Bush Sr. took the advice of Sin. on that pick. He did not even know Souter. Sin. was wrong. Bush Sr. has even said it was a bad pick. So blame the northeasterner who pushed it on Bush Sr.

I AM with the program. The wrist-slashers around here aren't. "It's not *insert pet nominee here*?! No! Damn you, Bush!"

As for being ignorant... when it comes to Miers, as of right now, we all are. That's not quite a justifiable reason for jumping off the rooftops.

anti-choice movement...rewrite history.

Please allow me a little rewrite lattitude:

Anti Wild-Eyed, Blood-Soaked, Baby-Killer Movement.

There, that's much better.

Source for pro-gun:

"What do we know about what kind of justice Harriet Miers will make, if confirmed? Not much, though what we do know is somewhat encouraging.

"We know that she's made reference, in a 1992 article for Texas Lawyer to "the right to bear arms" on a list of 'precious liberties.'"

I prefer to refer to it as the "Right to Take Life" since Roe declared that case-law based Right to take what they deemed "un-viable Life"
