Rush Limbaugh has found the information that Harriet Miers is an evangelical Christian, a member of a church in Dallas that most would describe as "fundamentalist." I believe that this vindicates my earlier analysis based on mistaken information about a Ministry supported by Ms. Miers.
Blue state fundamentalists tend to hate evangelicals the way that Islamists hate Jews: viscerally. It will take enormous willpower for many of them to avoid saying that one who believes in the literal word of the Bible should not be allowed a place on the Supreme Court. They played footsie with the position that a devout Catholic would be disqaualified.
To partially quote my earlier post: this is a battle the Democrat left can't win with a majority of the American public, which sees religious faith as a good thing. As far as I am concerned about the coming attacks, Dirty Harry summed up my feelings: "Go ahead — make my day."

Conservatives are forgetting the seminal moment that is the DNA root of GWB's quest for the presidency. It is a moment that truly tells us everything we need to know about GWB. It was not 9/11. . although it was certainly manifested there. . it was earlier, during the Presidential primaries before he was even elected. It was at a debate of the major Republican candidates. Each was asked, "which philosopher do you admire and why?". . .Plato was mentioned, Aristotle, the usual acceptable answers.
Then it comes to W. . .and what does W say?. . he gives an answer that, from the prespective of political strategy, was a disaster. Do you remember his answer? I do...and it's why I LOVE GEORGE W. BUSH! He said, "Jesus Christ. . .because he changed my heart!"
Now, I'm going to tell you something and you can call me a nutjob. .but I believe, right then and there, GOD CHOSE GWB to be our president. GWB is a man who believes these words, "Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and speak all manner of evil against you falsely, for mine name sake, REJOICE, BE EXCEEDINGLY glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they, the prophets, which were before you!!!
I believe Ms. Miers is a woman of prayer and deep faith who, like GWB, listens to God!
You know what could happen?
Reid could say, "I was duped, the battle is ON!" and there could be an enormous knock-down drag-out fight over Mier.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
I noted earlier and will repeat it for the record, President Bush nominated her today--MONDAY!--with many news cycles ahead. I do believe this is not a cut-and-dried issue, a foregone conclusion.
I think trouble lies ahead. And I think the Dems will, as usual, overplay their hand. Furthermore, I think it will be on the evangelical Christian issue.

Not so. The intellectual trends that are popular now have been popular for decades throughout the entire Western world. The father of modern Deconstruction, Martin Heidegger, was a member of the Nazi Party. Paul de Man wrote pro-Nazi articles in his native Belgium. The radical historicist view has also been popular since the 1930s.
All of this was taken up by various French intellectuals in the 60s, sure, but the underlying philosophy that is now all the rage at Yale and Princeton has been around for a very long time.
We don't need anyone who's an unknown *and* a graduate of an elite law school. Ann Coulter is exactly wrong.
I still believe - given the fine choices available to him - that he ought to have at least tried. Let the 'rats turn down a Brown or a Luttig or an Owens - and then have to twist themselves into logical pretzels to explain it. Ultimately, the problem is not George Bush - it's us: the American people, a majority of whom don't really want an "originalist" who might take away the legalistic justifications for Big Gummint goodies and abortion on demand. As for Ms. Miers - who knows what she believes or how she'll act? All I know is that when the likes of Harry Reid thinks she's acceptable, Conservatives ought to be nervous.

Do you seriously believe that? The only reason he didn't nominate them was he didn't have the guts to go to the mat for them.

Do you have facts to support the assumption that she is not?
Add to them the cowards who whine about stuff (one even CRIED when he refused to vote for Bolton): Voinovich, Dewine, Graham, and Lugar. That makes 8 possible no votes.
Now, to that add McCain and Hagel, the nut-case wild cards, and you have 10 possible no votes.
In a situation like this, you would get NO democrat votes. None, zero, zip.
So, you could end up with only 45 Yes votes for a conservative nominee. We still lose, and the President looks weak.
Then, of course, we would be treated to all sorts of "the conservative movement is dead" articles, the party would split, we would probably lose one house of Congress in 2006, and we would go into the 2008 primaries with a fractured party.
I do not think a fight is worth the risk, especially if this nominee is really a conservative.
I still don't understand why I am to believe Mark Levin and Ann Coulter over Dick Cheney, James Dobson, and the President.

Once they get it, they sure hate to give it up, that's true. Rehnquist died in his traces. a couple years at least after he should have retired.
