Ann Coulter: Miers a 'Complete Mediocrity'

Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bush’s nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa” - Coulter, who’s now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must),” said:

"No. She’s something new: a complete mediocrity.”

Ouch.

I see Ann is engaging in her perogative to be derogative in order to maintain the fiction that you have to have some sort of lawyerly qualifications to serve as a judge.

Tired of the carp already. Qualifications don't mean jack, what's her temperament? Has she got Thatcherlike spinal qualities and does she want to uphold the constitution as written, rather than as imagined by so many "qualified" jurists?

Folks,

You do realize there is no Constitutional requirement that a nominee even be a lawyer. Bush picked someone whose character he knows. Bush Sr didn't know Souter and got blindsided.

Also, exactly why are all these so called conservatives opposing nomination of a devout Christian?

Fast forward 25 years, insert Scalias, Rhenquists, and Thomases for Brandeises and Cardozos and Frankfurters, and she's nailed it. Miers is the Carswell memorial nominee.

Most managing partners I've come across are not exactly known for their legal scholarship. They are rainmakers, good managers, excellent leaders, but given the circumstances which made them the firm's choice to be managing partner, constitutional scholarship generally is not a criterion.

When I think of the nominees of first-class intellect and unbending moral spine he could have picked--such as Luttig, McConnell, and Rogers-Brown--whose qualifications and conservative credentials are well-established and unyielding, I am filled with disgust beyond words that he would overlook them and choose his personal lawyer because Reid praised her to him.

Agreed! That statement is just absolutely flat out wrong. So that makes Ann ("I'm getting so full of myself") Coulter flat out wrong. She's turning into an "It's all about me" bimbo.

Has anyone noticed that Ann has showing almost the identical symptoms as Pat Buchanan did before he went totally 'loco' (and also irrelevant)...

Bush could have nominated Dershowitz and had the same defenders.

We were sort of kidding about AC as SCJ but her qualifications put this lady to shame in terms of constitutional law and her experience at the Court. So I'm not sure what your point is. You are familiar with her resume, right?

The constitution is just not that damn hard unless one has to have the ability to peer into the penumbras as the document itself gives off flux from its breathing.

I keep wondering just what qualifies one to be an associate justice? I always thought that an honest and sincere person that had the intelligence to understand a complex problem was an acceptable choice.

Ann's right - the Vice President today - trust GWB and for a lot of people it stands to reason we're ask to take on trust not just one but TWO stealth candidates. Like there's something wrong with being a proud and honest conservative. Her reaction understates the sense of betrayal felt by many on the base. Why do we need to make Democrats happy? To turn the question around, would a Democratic President care what Republicans thought of his nominee? There's your answer.

I heard some of Brown's testimony in front of Congress. He got a raw deal. His only error was in not having Blanco jailed.
