© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com Local and federal agents were carting away what was described as a huge cache of explosives from the apartment of the 21-year-old student who blew himself up outside the stadium where 84,000 watched a Sooners football game.
Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., died in the explosion, according to FBI officials.
Investigators believe Hinrichs detonated a bomb about 8 p.m. Saturday, just 100 yards away from the packed football stadium.
Police were overheard telling residents it would take "several trips and could take up to 24 hours" to remove it all, according to the Daily Oklahoman.
A canister trailer used for detonating or transporting potentially explosive material was being used to haul items away.
Officials said Hinrichs' motive for blowing himself up Saturday near the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium during the second quarter of OU's game against Kansas State remains under investigation.
OU President David Boren said Hinrichs was a student "who had very, serious personal problems that led to this tragic death."
Because of what happened, Boren said, the FBI had taken over the investigation.
Boren said the student had explosives strapped to his body.
Investigators would not say whether they believe Hinrichs intended to go inside the stadium before the detonation happened.
It was in the area between Cross and another building to the south although it was closer to Cross.
Boren is said to be "recuperating"--although I never heard from what. So it might have been nervousness, or maybe he just felt lousy.
Don't forget that David Boren is George Tenent's mentor too!
bttt
My tin foil hat says they detonated it remotely, because he was the money for the bomb or the brains for the bomb, but wanted someone else to carry it...
meaning, he didn't know they were going to blow him up, he thought he was just a delivery boy.
Saw this linked on another thread. From timebomb, a resident of Norman who has info from a friend inside the LE says that Hinrichs had a ME roommate -- maybe it's a clue, maybe not.

One thing our local news (OKC) mentioned was that they couldn't find his roommate, but that he had nothing at all to do with the bombing. Hmmm....
Our local channel 9 (CBS) just reported that his roommate was a Pakistani. They, too, are saying he can't be found.
"If I ever doubted there was some sort of nationwide control over media coverage, those doubts have vanished in light of what I am witnessing in this case."
The media certainly got their marching orders on this one. If it was OBVIOUSLY just a suicide by creative means in a public place like a game without any conceivable terrorism possibility, it would have been on the news.
"If I ever doubted there was some sort of nationwide control over media coverage, those doubts have vanished in light of what I am witnessing in this case."
I will add that seeing CBS run with obvoiusly forged documents to take down a president before an election, but not touching this, implies the control mechanism is something like the NSA or some other apolitical group which only involves itself in issues it regards as natsec.
"You can not get into a Sooner game without having a purse or backpack searched. Mind you, it is not a very thourough search, but it is a search. Also, there is a limit to how big of a bag or backpack you can carry in. It really makes sneaking a flask in tricky!"
Well, I probably shouldn't tell you this but in my day, we would take a few oranges and inject them with vodka. That's how the tradition of throwing oranges onto the field at OU originated. Nothing to do with the orange bowl, it was a clever way to get booze into the stadium.
I seem to recall 4 refinery explosions about the time of the first gulf war. I only caught glimpses of the Montana west and east coast "accidents", I was very aware of the one in Pasadena/Houston. It made page 4 in the next days paper, the others made it waaaaay further back.
The media critter has been caged before, many times!

Tulsa - NewsChannel 8 has confirmed that the Tulsa bomb squad has responded to the Tulsa Community College Metro Campus south parking lot to check out a suspicious device.
The lot, located near 12th and Boston, has been secured. There is no word on if the campus has been evacuated.
We're told the suspicious device is inside a vehicle in the parking lot.
We have a crew on the way and will bring you more as details become available.

can you source a link on the refinery explosions you mention?
A lady who witnessed this said there was a puff of smoke and a boom. Because she used the term puff of smoke, I assumed it was a fairly small explosive package.
The half-time Boomer fizzled and had an audience of only one, evidently.
A friend who attended the game said he heard the boom and thought it was thunder, but looked around and there were no clouds.
I think there's little doubt that the guy did intend a spectacular half-time show. Must not have been paying attention in his electrical engineering fusemaking classes.
as one of the investigative agencies said yesterday...there are many puzzle pieces. This is an odd coincidence.
If your post is correct, the Sooners need to adopt a new mascot, and call themselves the Guardian Angels, for you have one. Truly, God is good.
It's readily searchable on Google NEWS search with over 300 hits - just search for OU. There is barely anything on plain google search though. I will add that the articles that do come up are your garden variety AP stories which as most know aren't the best investigative journalism reports.

Thanls for the ping!! Looks like our suspicions are being confirmed. The beard on that guy looks troubling indeed. The explosive cache clearly indicates that this was no ordinary suicide (as PhiKapMom mentioned 2 days ago).
