Harriet Miers
I think Ms. Miers nomination to the Supremes is D.O.A.!
Maybe not but those guys are classic. They don't make 'um like that anymore. Somewhere near would be nice.
Ahhh ... good. I was looking for a timeframe and so forth. Now e need to find WHYshe argued against the ABA taking a position based on the voted of -ONLY- the convention delegates.
My belief is that the cite offered is not dispositive of Ms. Mier's position on the issue. My understanding is that she advocated the entore mebership of the ABA be given a voice on the position, instead of limiting the voice to only convention delegates.
And, because one has to be repetetive on FR because the readers here "don't," I care much less about her personal position as to either the morality or legality of abortion that I do about her commitment to judicial restraint.
Yes. I strongly oppose his lack of action to curb illegal immigration.
But don't let that get in the way of your calling me a kool-aid drinking blind follower. I know that's what makes you bashers feel like men.
Now stay on topic.
Maybe she WON'T get confirmed...perhaps that's the idea.
I don't know...I'm sick at my stomach. On one hand I'm pissed at the President, on the other hand I want to trust him. But he's pissed me off more lately than he's impressed me.
Name one.
**Jones = Stevens**
One could thank Bush for turning her........
No not even CLOSE. Luttig is a shining light who would've excited the base. We're told that 'ANGRY WHITE MEN' are responsible for the 94, 2000, '02 and '4 wins. Well, Luttig was the guy to keep the 'AWM' excited about politics despite the sky high gas prices.
If the Dems had went after Luttig for advocating the death penalty of the 17 and a half year old who killed his father in cold blood, the rats would've gotten clobbered.
Most Americans --fter hearing what happened to Luttig's old man-- would've been four square behind his nomination. And the rats would've looked like soft on crime pinkos for oppsing him.
God, Bush blew this one so effing bad it's hard to even put in to words.
That comment was REALLY out of line. I expect more of people with Scripture as a screenname.
I must disagree with you about the spinster angle.
I suspect she is single by choice and not touchy-feely woman whose emotions play a large part of her decision making process.
Still I am no fan of this pick.
The lesbian rumors have been going on for an hour now. sigh..........
And stay on the subject of the thread.
Why is being married with kids such a big deal?
Face it, Bush is going to have to reinforce this nominee in order to get her through. She might make a great appellate judge, but not a Justice on the SCOTUS.
That she has been conservative for the past 15 years at least, and donated to him when he had a voting record of being staunchly pro-life. He was just changing his colors at that point. That she led the charge in getting the ABA to renouce its pro-choice position. That she's a solid conservative Christian. That she is a strict constructionist.
Give the Prez some credit here. This wasn't a stupid choice. If she turns out to be a Souter, it isnt' going to be because she gave any signals beforehand.
Disabled rights are just one example.
Fla. Rep. Dave Simmons of the House Judiciary Committee said to me "Terri will be martyred." He's the head of the judiciary committee. They wanted a martyr, well, they created her.
Why is that her choice? I'd prefer Bush put a woman whose demonstrated through her choices that she is pro-family, pro-motherhood and pro-life.
This is a poor nomination. I sure hope she doesn't have a Donna Shalala in her closet....
You would prefer he picked someone he didn't know?
That makes a hell of a lot of sense.
Yep, and if he IS wrong about her and we get another O'Connor, I will not suggest we crucify him. I believe he thinks he's made the right decision. I never believed he was perfect anyway if he turns out to be wrong. I believe in cutting my Prez some slack instead of viciously attacking him if everything doesn't satisfy my uninformed opinion.
