A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the university’s Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.

What did they say about Joel? Was he under a lot of pressure? What do they attribute his suicide to?
So looks like we jumped to a conclusion. But we should all never be too quick to accept everything we hear from the media, we have to stay vigilant and on top of these things!

They didn't know why he'd do it, probably just crazy in the head. I do feel better now, but am quite upset as to the medias lack of coverage

If you wanted to make sure that you died and hurt others for not caring, what better way to make a messy statement than to blow yourself up right outside the big game. I agree, its probably not the way a woman would select but then they wouldnt swallow a gun either and this was an a guy and an engineering student to boot. Sounds plausible to me.
Or for that matter, just having no other choices than to attend Ohio State or Michigan...

also, why would he commit suicide? and did he have explosives experience? this kid could have been an unlucky victim of this.
Well that's just it. The first mental illness that comes to mind for many is... Islam.

The kid doesn't need to be a muslim to be a terrorist. He had to know that people would suspect terrorism if he blew himself up. Blowing himself up, knowing that people will suspect terrorism kinda make him a terrorist in his own right.
For all we know he could have fully intended to detonate in the crowd as they exited the stadium but got fidgety and POOF.
You do remember the Pizza delivery man that was murdered though where they strapped a bomb to him...
