A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the university’s Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.

But let me try, "There's a 21 yr old student dead--he apparently suffered from mental illness of some sort" fits the profile of a terrorists to me.
Yesterday, they were saying there was an overload of calls in the stadium. This happened on 9/11 to the phones around the NY metro area. (I'm not talking about the lines that went through the Twin Towers.) I could call North Carolina and New Jersey from Long Island by my corded home phone. It also happened in that blackout a few years ago. Everyone got on the lines at once and calls went no where. At home always have a non-electric phone (corded).

I asked on another thread; please provide the links to the last three American college students that used an explosive device in a public area to commit suicide. Accidents while building the device do not count. The @zzhats at Columbine do not count, because the "bombs" did not kill them. Still awaiting a single link.
Yea , I live in NYC area. Cells were useless a good part of that day . WTC had some cell towers in it on top of the massive call volume.

Oh yea , I didnt forget ..I got slammed , bashed and cursed at for saying I didnt see any good evidence yet to support a botched terrorist attack ..Thes guys were freaking out on me for that . I saw some wierd theories on there. I saw you there all night ..You had more sense than I did and stayed pretty quiet if I remember. Good point! The reason is because they don't have an answer. I haven't heard of any students at any college that tried to use a bomb to commit suicide. In fact, other than Muslims, I haven't heard of anyone who used a bomb to blow themselves up. I'm not saying that someone didn't do it but just that I haven't heard about it if they did. That just sounds awful painful. I can think of a better way to do it, other than having your limbs blown off. :o)

This guy could be an islamic terrorist, but he may not be. We don't know for sure. Why do you want him to be? Either way, it is not a pretty story.
I have seen so many threads where hysteria reigned and it turned out to be nothing. Now obviously this is not nothing. But it may just be a nutjob. We need to be open to ANY explanation. Otherwise we ignore information which does not fit into our own view. We cannot make a decision based on what we know now.
I do not doubt you may be right. But now, simply because there may not be another suicide like this, does not mean it has to be ISLAMIC terrorism, trained and planned by AQ. That does not mean this young man did not have an agenda. Maybe he was a war protester. Who knows? Maybe he didn't mean to kill himself. Maybe he wanted to blow up the KU bus. Maybe he wanted attention. Maybe he hated football players. Maybe he just wanted to kill to see what it was like.
Everything is allright now. The local news just told me that the suicide bomber was a guy named Joel. They also reassured me that nobody else was ever in any danger. You have no idea how relieved I am. This whole incident makes me think that I was wrong about Islamofascists. If we would only open negotiations with them, we could all have our eyes opened to the fact that Palestine deserves a homeland. Dhimmitude is not a bad thing after all. There might be some tin-foilers that tell me otherwise, but now I know that the federal government has my best interest at heart. If we can only convince everyone else to dump their weapons of destruction into the sea, we will be able to share in the peace of Allah. It is so sad that we have all been duped into believing that our friends in Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Lybia were intending the USA any harm. I am guessing that the only way that we as a nation can correct this injustice is to eliminate Israel, and all other polytheist nations on the face of the earth. If these actions are insufficient, we should begin a pogrom within the USA to exterminate free thought. After the new Caliph is appointed.
