Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is urging the Department of Homeland Security to assure illegal immigrants that they will get their fair share of Hurricane Katrina relief aid without fear of being deported.
In a statement posted to her official Senate web site on Wednesday, Clinton said that the DHS should "issue a formal statement reassuring immigrant victims of Hurricane Rita and Katrina that they can seek help from relief agencies without fear of deportation or being turned over to immigration authorities."
In a letter written directly to Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff, Clinton and other Senate Democrats complained that they first asked for Katrina amnesty for illegals more than two weeks ago, but have not received a response.
"In fact," they said, "we were surprised and troubled to learn that DHS has placed some individuals in deportation proceedings after these individuals sought assistance, despite the fact that the government had previously encouraged all storm victims to come forward to seek help.
"Particularly given the widely publicized reports that DHS will deport some immigrant victims of Katrina who sought assistance, we believe such a public assurance is crucial."
Mrs. Clinton urged Chertoff to "terminate removal proceedings against those [illegal immigrants] who were placed in proceedings after they sought assistance."
Other Senate Democrats who signed onto Mrs. Clinton bid to obtain Katrina aid for illegal immigrants include Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Maria Cantwell, Barack Obama, Russ Feingold, Daniel Akaka, Frank Lautenberg, Joe Lieberman, Carl Levin, John F. Kerry, Chris Dodd, Pat Leahy and Jon Corzine.

That pretty much exposes Hillary's feigned concern about our porous southern border and the illegal alien invasion, for what we knew it was. Pure political posturing pig manure, straight from the sows mouth to our ears.

Which will probably see her nominated as the Candidate.
However, illegal immigration will clearly be the domestic issue in the next election--there is a storm brewing over illegal immigration, and it's likely to become Category 5 before too long.
The bottom line is that they are here ILLEGALLY... I agree they should seek help if needed..in their own country...
If medical attention is needed, get 'em patched up and send them back, If they need to be fed, feed them and send them back...
MANY of them know exactly how to "funnel" and weasle their way into being VERY well taken care of by the tax payers in the good ole US of A... They dont need to be reassured we will take care of them without deporting them...they already know that!
Interesting how about one-hundred percentile of comments here (FR in general as also elsewhere) readily recognizes Hillary Clinton's various declarations/statements as being motivated by self interest or outright greed.
THEN we get to debate her statements but the interesting thing is that she's so clearly motivated by her self interests. And then seizes upon issues and such that promote herself, or potentially will. That list there of other Democrats is included, too, but H. Clinton is brazen about it. She never makes nary a peep unless it's about something that has her ~best interests~ all over it.

I hate to over-simplify things, but I THOUGHT that the idea of taxes meant that citizens of the USA would pay taxes to the different layers of government in exchange for certain services to be received. And that the services would be provided to US citizens.

However, most people realize that humanity should rescue anyone human and ask questions later, after they've received emergency treatments, helps and such.
I am betting what is at stake here is not emergency-level helps, however (like food, shelter, clothing on a short term rescue basis) but PROPERTY and OWNERSHIP of property issues like mortgages, "free" or reduced cost replacement housing from FEMA (new trailers!) and educational financing and things of that nature. Those and the prize of "amnesty" is the goal here...
They want some blanket excuse for their illegal behavior because there was a hurricane...I guess that means that Americans can now go to Mexico City and get free houses and health care and food and property and voting rights because our cars broke down in Cabo. Ooops, "were destroyed by natural forces" in Cabo.
And I suppose this also means that all those warrants outstanding for all those out of New Orleans and related for crimes can now just "disappear." They're now deemed "legal" and blameless by Hillary's magic wand in the Senate?

Bear in mind, he was specifically refering to illegal aliens, even though he didn't have the courage to say it.
The Dems and the unions have made a big point about Bush lifting Davis-Bacon, but they have hardly mentioned his other move that makes it easier to employ illegal aliens: declaring a 45 day moratorium on hiring fines. (Not that that's anything more than symbolism considering his refusal to enforce those hiring laws anyway).
If you want some movement on illegal immigration, I'd suggest visiting Democratic websites and whenever someone brings up Davis-Bacon, let them know that Reid, Clinton, and the rest are also supporting illegal aliens taking the rebuilding jobs that could go to Americans. (Here's one of my attempts, but I can only do so much.)
Do the Dems want millions of people to think that want illegal aliens to take rebuilding jobs from Americans? Let's get the word out.

Well, why NOT deport them? I mean, many of us have been asking this question for a long time now. The lack of response is deafening.
Instead, all we ever hear is how impossible anything is as to dealing with the problem, and then we hear these sort of "pet the illegal aliens and give them our country" stupidity from the Democrats and some of the Republicans, unfortunately.
I think we now have to start some sort of postup place with each Senator's mugshot and label them accordingly: "enforce our borders" versus "aid for illegal aliens" versus "amnesty for illegal aliens" versus "migrant workers can have Maine" and similar.
Because the ongoing statements out of our Senate and related is nonsensical...it seems that it was about a few weeks ago that Hillary Clinton was yelling about border security, New Mexico and Arizona Democrats were, too and now they're yelling about more free stuff, INCLUDING AMNESTY, for illegal aliens...I am betting Hillary is seeing her numbers go desperately down and is now grabbing at straws.
That and combined with the fact that NYC is mecca for many illegal aliens and Hillary is going for the Wonder Woman Rescuer position here to impress her numbers in N.Y. -- help out the illegals in the Gulf and get them resettled in N.Y. as voters, probably, or otherwise, influence her N.Y. numbers but the thing is, she's not making any consistent sense here.

Very short-sighted of Hillary, or an attempt to snare the votes of illegals. Her new pets will benefit from the Katrina reconstruction like no other group, since at least 70% of those doing the reconstruction will most likely be illegals in the first friggin' place.
Does Mrs. Clinton realize the stupidity of a statement that includes both the word "illegal" and "fair"?
