From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said. The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.
The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.
After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

Under the circumstances, it would be prudent to remove any unknown and questionable substances using bomb removal equipment. This does not mean that they are explosives, or even precursors, nor explosive devices, just that they are not sure. I would not take unnecessary chances eithr, if I were in their shoes.
That is the logical take. The Alcoa/Reynolds fashion chapeau winner says this is a smokescreen, they didn't find anything but are going through the motions to increase the feeling of security of the real bomber(s) so they can wait for someone to blab or investigate their way to them.

One thing that is pointed out at the very end of the video is the distance from Hinrichs' apartment and the Islamic society of Oklahoma. It's less than a block away....

Thank you Peach for your info. :)

There were reports that he has ties to Islamic groups by a freeper in the area. I'd love to see if Jayna Davis has anything to say about this matter. Her screen name is truthaboveall.

Just saw the pic of the guy on Drudge - with beard. Could someone post that pic on this thread? Makes him seem a bit more suspect - didn't all the other American converts have this same beard?

Thanks. What's with the beard but no moustache thing?

Check out the new pic of Hinrichs on
NEIN.
Go ahead and tell me your first thought when you see it......
And..
A cache of explosive materials was discovered Sunday night in the apartment of a Wasson High graduate who apparently blew himself up Saturday outside a football stadium packed with 84,000 people at the University of Oklahoma.

Beard. Definitely trying to remake himself in Allah's image.

Unless they wanted to bury it so as not to cause a panic. Could you imagine what would happen if every American was informed that it was a terrorist... Yes, it is odd, but there are a number of reasons to slam the lid on this:
Apparent closure of an ongoing investigation--suspects who don't know they are suspected of anything will be easier to locate/catch.
Reduction of potential for panic, not just in OU, but at football games and sporting events all over. This is real, someone got killed. If that were to get out as a terror attack to the mainstream, someone could start a panic and stampede at any other stadium with little more than a cherry bomb and a tin trash can as a prank or otherwise. The panic, stampede, and crowd crush could kill far more people than all but the largest of explosive devices, but this could be done malicously on a widespread basis, on the cheap.
Finally, there is this: a huge source of network revenue is sports. There may well be pressure from collegiate and professional spports organizations from the NFL to the NCAA to NASCAR or whomever to downplay or keep a lid on this so the gate reciepts, concessions, etc. do not suffer.

THe news media is shut up tight as a drum, but the "top-secret" NIN folks are leaking like a sieve? Again, possible, but where are the facts?
To: Uncle Ike
b) this country remains under threat of attack from (Islamic) terrorists. (The default "code-yellow" terrorism alert level is two steps ABOVE "nothing to see here", regardless of how comfortable and complacent we've gotten)
Then the logical default assumption in any incident involving explosives - especially in a (potentially) crowded public place - should be Terrorism, until such time as facts demonstrate otherwise.
I disagree for a simple reason - President Bush and the National Security Council have access to a lot more information about terrorism than you or I could imagine.
If President Bush and the NSC felt there was a threat to this country, they would have bumped our border security up. They haven't, and therefore either they are very incompetent, or they have enough information that they feel secure in leaving things the way they are.

Occam's Razor. Sometimes a kid that blows himself up is just a kid that blows himself up.
Looks like I missed a few hundred (or thousand) replies - I didn't see your response in there, and that you had brought up Occam's Razor first.

Pretty standard EOD from what my nephew has told me, If you are not sure if it is a bomb, either blow it up in place, or transport it to somewhere safe and blow it up there.

I have a bigger post coming. But maybe his inability to grow a beard was the last straw that pushed him over the edge?
Anybody blown up that picture to see if it is photoshopped? The NEIN web site gives me the feeling of those sites that show how the planes that hit the towers were actually military transports, although that is just a feeling, I don't have any evidence.
To: CharlesWayneCT
Hmmm. Well, when you post more about this, ping me to if please.
