From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said. The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.
The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.
After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

Just posting press quotes from the suicide bomber's reletives.
You do have to admit it is strange that this happened at OU(where mossawi and nicholas berg also attended).

Hinrichs' older sister, Berkeley Hinrichs, said from her home in Illinois that she last spoke to her brother eight months ago. She said he told her he was having trouble with the direction of his future. "The last time I talked to him, he was not sure what he wanted to do with his life," she said. How cold! I cannot imagine not talking to my sibs for an eight month stretch, if I was living in the same country.

Someone who is depressed, unsure of his direction in life... Sounds like someone who'd be a perfect dupe for terrorists looking to recruit someone to do their dirty work. Someone quite vulnerable to brainwashing and manipulation.
Has anyone wondered why he was sitting on a bench at the time of detonation? If he had planned to mingle among the crowd exiting the stadium at halftime, and halftime was later than he thought it would be, might he not have sat on the bench to wait rather than hang around at the exits suspiciously? And then perhaps set himself off by accident?

NEIN is the same people that once laughably proclaimed a helicopter-borne tree trimmer a "radiation sensor"; one of a variety of amateur "pretend terrorism analysis" fantasy sites.
But, there's an element on FR that likes NEIN because they tell them what they want to hear.

NEIN's lead "analyst" is about 17 years old.

Nope. Checked into that yesterday - no mention of him in Facebook whatsoever.
Some of his comments (though brief) can be found in the minutes of his engineering frat's meetings. Definitely sounds depressed.

The 5 injured report was from 580CFRA in Ottawa.
It's our talk radio station.
I just checked, 7:42 am, Ottawa time, and the report is still there.

NEIN is the same people that once laughably proclaimed a helicopter-borne tree trimmer a "radiation sensor"; one of a variety of amateur "pretend terrorism analysis" fantasy sites. They are the same people who claimed about 15 months ago that the Feds found a nuke ready to explode in NYC (or was it Boston), but were able to safely extract the device and explode it in the Ocean off the East Coast of the United States. They even produced a seismigraph that allegedly recorded the explosion. With memogate like quickness, the internet community shot down the seismigraph as showing earthquake waves and not the waves produced by a nuclear blast.

You're no 'nutter'... the story was badly covered and the public was ill-served. The thread rang-up 3500+ hits!

Can't believe this tread is still alive! FReepers did a great job getting information on this story even before the Lazy Stream Press (LPS)! Great job FReepers!

It is also possible the device was timed to go off during halftime. The first half supposedly ran late, so he was the only one there. What are the chances he was just waiting for someone and the bomb was in a pack on the bench--and not his?

What are the chances that the kid who was killed was a victim, who had beeen asked to watch a backpack by one of the ME guys while waiting on the bench outside for someone?
Getting ammo from eBay could not have been anything explosive, nor powder, propellant, nor small arms ammunition. It had to be a code word for either information, something other than ammo, or a different source. For all we know he had a bid in on water balloons or something.
People are taking a fascination with weapons, which many have, and extrapolating that into self-destruction in a rather unique way. Designing an armor piercing bullet doesn't make him the mad bomber, he may have been looking to get a patent, just like dad/grandpa.
Excuse me, but I am having a Richard Jewell flashback--only the dead guy is the easiest to blame.
How has the container of the bomb been attributed to him except by proximity?
I may be wrong, but I have to ask.

Well, he's the only place I've found that has a pic of the blast site.
You should at least watch that video he linked to.
And yes, I'm looking for other sources to verify that this stuff was found in his Apt.

Nice find, thanks for the info.

On occasion country boys have been known to make pipe bombs. I have known them to be used for fishing, a large one to open up a spring, and a couple pranksters I knew in HS used them to blow up mailboxes, which was frowned upon.
Although inherently dangerous, (most were made with black powder, as I understand), no one was killed.
This, however, did not have the large amount of smoke that would normally be associated with black powder, and by all accounts was significantly more powerful. Not your normal country boy device in that sense.
