Bomb Blast at University of Oklahoma (Breaking on Fox) - suicide bomber at OU

NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

pssst. Anybody can read about how to manufacture an explosive device on the internet. And the same anybody can make an attempt at constructing that device. It is the same as anybody can read about how to flay jet aircraft. Reading about it does not imply any ability to accomplish the task. This incident implies that someone that had experience in constructing HE devices, keeping them at ,umm, proper environmental conditions, deploying, arming, and detonating was involved. There is a rather limited group that posess this deployed "capability". And that group does not include despondent sophomores that get the clap and do not wanna face Julia Rottencrotch's folks. Just sayin.

I don't know about that. But I do have some problems with a person lugging a pipe bomb to a football stadium simply to commit suicide. But, maybe said person left a note or told other people he was depressed. So we shall see.

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe the bomber was on his way to blow up the crowd of people and prematurely detonated the bomb? Happens all the time in Isreal and Iraq.

No, not in the U.S. of A....Yer jumping at conclusions...Have to wait for the 'facts'...Just because a fella was a few hundred feet away from thousands of men, women and children with enough explosives to blow half of them to smithereens, doesn't mean anything...He may have been making a delivery for the Delta Force and took a shortcut...

OU president had this to say yesterday, "A second device which was found during the initial search has been detonated." (link) and this to say today, "President Boren has been notified that further investigation has confirmed there was no second device. The second detonation was the bomb squad making sure that there was not a second device." (link)

What would they blow up the second time that the initial explosion would not have taken care of? Not saying that I believe in any conspiracy stuff, just wondering what is actually going on.

Also, here is a map for those of us who have never been there. The biology center near where it happened is #31 on left side of map.

Boren initially said a police bomb squad detonated explosives found at the site of the blast. But in a separate statement issued early Sunday, Boren said it was further investigation determined that the second detonation, which could also be heard in the stadium area, was done by the bomb squad to ensure there was not a second device. The area near the stadium was searched by bomb dogs.

The Constitution right now doesn't protect a cult such as the Branch Dividian, or Heavon's Gate, which advocated death and killing, why should it protect someone else who is preaching hatred and volence just because they are preaching it inside a Mosque? What is the difference? It's not a rewrite of the constitution, it's to act tough laying down laws that are already written against advocating violence. We need to confront those who are preaching hatred and stop all this political correctness BS, are you an advocate of allowing political correctness to jepordize American lives?

Exactly pa mom. By the way I'm a PA grandpa. If I was in charge my first priority would be to ID the remains. Once I was able to do that, then I would know what his nationality was, where he lived, who is friends are/were etc.

I guess we're just going to have to trust the gubberment on this.
