Totally breaking news appearing in today's news site that I posted from.
In addition, everything in the article is happening currently.
on FreeRepublic, it's not breaking news. it's a vanity post. note that the mods removed it from breaking news.
That's a fair and logical statement and I would agree with you. However, I defy anyone to explain what article of the United States Constitution authorizes (even however slightly) the Federal Government from interfering in the production and distribution of marijuana within the state of California. In fact, Article 1, Section 9. Clause 5 would appear to make The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 completely unconstitutional.
What most Republicans trying to pass as conservative fail to grasp is that the Constitution must be upheld, even when inconvenient and the unconstitutional expansion of government power must be opposed even when it concerns issues that you personally approve of.
No no no. This would be a sign that the "truffle" patch in your backyard is endowed with much more street value than you ever dreamed of.
Also, if you discover a crackpipe under his pillow when you were expecting a loose tooth, there's a pretty good chance he's going to try smoking cigarettes one day.
Great, still would be best to just never getting started with this junk. We don't need any of it at all. All it has done is ruin lots of people's futures.
Re-read the post. I addressed violence in my response. Anxiety attacks are clinical and not representative of personality types. However, I'll bet there are others who would argue that their anxiety disorder improved after they started smoking pot.
Thank you for your anecdotal evidence, though.
In my days of flirting with the Libertarian Party, I found the young members had a pet peeve about the drug war. The older members had a pet peeve about prostitution being illegal. I had a pet peeve about taxes.
Then 9/11 came along and the LP wanted no part of going after Bin Laden in Afghanistan.
So I quit. It was a long time coming, really.
I don't know about killed. But last year rocker Ozzie Osborne was quoted as saying that the use of pot led his son Jack to be a user of harder more addictive drugs.
I don't like any of the recreational drugs or their worshippers because this just plain and simply weakens our people and country IMO. We need family, work and maybe even oil to fuel this engine of Democracy, we sure as hell never needed recreational drugs.
It is NOT a conservative behavior IMO to be pushing recreational drug use. We can do very well without the drugs and I think Bennetts comment about crime being reduced could equally apply to the regular illegal drug users as well.
We certainly shouldn't encourage it, but human beings have used intoxicating substances since the beginning of time. The drug war has only benefited government. Allowing property to be seized from alleged drug dealers is as un-American and anti-conservative as any modern policy. Having marijuana illegal is as useless as prohabition was.
QUESTION 2: Marijuana is not addictive. True or False?
False. Research shows that marijuana is addictive. In fact, more teens enter treatment with a primary diagnosis of marijuana dependency than for all other illegal drugs combined.
Oh puleeze. It's PSYCHOLOGICALLY addictive, perhaps, but just because teens enter treatment centers with a primary diagnosis of MJ dependency does not clinically make it addictive. The primary diagnosis I have for kids entering treatment centers is bad parenting.
QUESTION 4: Smoking weed only makes people feel mellow. True or False?
False. Marijuana can cause paranoia, panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Heavy marijuana use has even been linked with increased aggression, rebelliousness and violent behavior.
So does booze, caffeine and sugar. Let's outlaw them all.
Go to child. "Child, I smoked more weed than Tommy Cheech. Did every known drug. It fries your brains and ruins your life. If you have any sense, you won't do it. Also, the booze won't help either. Sex can be fatal these days as well. I will be able to detect the presence of any of these three vices. Any of the three can be fatal via mommycide. This is where I beat you over the head with a shovel." Then show them a shovel. Big snow shovel.
Liar, liar, panty's on fire. Alcohol, caffine, and tobacco dwarf marijuana use.
QUESTION 2: Marijuana is not addictive. True or False? False. Research shows that marijuana is addictive. In fact, more teens enter treatment with a primary diagnosis of marijuana dependency than for all other illegal drugs combined.
Someone is obviously smoking too much weed, because this is simply not true. There is not a single credible scientific study that finds that marijuana is physically addictive.
QUESTION 3: Smoking one marijuana joint is as harmful as smoking five cigarettes. True or False? True. In fact, smoking four joints is like smoking an entire pack.
Harmful in what way? Since marijuana does not contain nicotine or many of the other deadly chemicals commonly found is cigs, I series doubt that marijuana is as dangerous. Also, most pot smokers I know don't chain smoke reefers like nicotine junkies suck down cancer sticks. Two or three hits off a pipe or bong is SOP, and even when joints are smoked, they are passed around so each person may only have a couple of tokes. I would have to smoke two or three hits a day for about two weeks to equal one joint, which means I'm only smoking the equivilent of about one cigarette ever 2.8 days. The air we breath in just about any big city is more dangerous.
QUESTION 4: Smoking weed only makes people feel mellow. True or False? False. Marijuana can cause paranoia, panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Heavy marijuana use has even been linked with increased aggression, rebelliousness and violent behavior.
The same can be said for just about every prescription drug on the market, and as to many of those drugs, the side effects are often far worse than the side effects, if any, from smoking marijuana. Those same side effects are, however, frequently associated with alcohol, caffine, and nicotine withdrawl.
Sounds a little Joe Fridayish
It is a major problem and when people are being nonconservative in not being responsible, law enforcement acts I guess. Better to never get into this kind of situation. I think you have to be a complete idiot to ever start getting into recreational drug use unless. The IQ would have to be way down there as an adult and the corruption of the children (just like the homosexual agenda) is wicked.
It would be more correct to say you lean libertarian or some other wording.
People who are actual libertarians maintain that human bings own themselves. They are not owned by the state or others. They assert their rights. That includes the right to do things that may be harmful to themselves.
And did you know that masturbation makes you go blind?"
Typical attitude for those who admire the recreational drug lifestyle I guess.
All your truth and science are belong to us. I'm buying another 300 shares of Wackenhut stock and nobody's gonna stop me. The War on Some Drugs is a pure profit engine and I don't care about the truth or how it gets propagandized! It's for the children.
"I think if the founding fathers were here today, they would see the type of civilization we live in and the density of the population and would tell you to grow up.
You are not living in the open ranges of the 1700's anymore and everything you do can also fall upon your near by neighbors or the state and national treasury. "
I can't let that one pass. That's the same logic the liberals use when they call the Constitution a "living document". You want to read the minds of the founders, and then apply the Constitution the way YOU THINK they would have wanted?!
The BS meter is pegged. The Constitution is what they meant. Plain and simple. You think they didn't anticipate growth? You think they didn't anticipate change? Or do you just believe you are smarter than they are and thus more capable of deciding how we should govern ourselves?
Sounds very liberal to me.
Another typical tactic of the recreational drug politician. Point to other stuff when marijuana is in the spotlight.
Tell you what, go start that cigarette and alcohol thread and ping us. Thanks! :-)
Why do you feel the need to defend recreational drug use as a conservative?
