"automatic weapons have been banned in the usa for decades."

Actually they technically aren't, just very heavily regulated. We should loosen those regulations, too.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here:

IIRC While not banned per se, they are heavily regulated by the BATFE (as Class III weapons).

You can buy autos in this country. You just have to have lots of money and proper licensing.

Wrong. Machine guns manufactured before 1986 that are registered under federal law are legal to own in most states.

That's strange. I attended the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Machine gun Shoot a few months back and I could have sworn I saw hundreds of full autos blasting away.

WRONG!!!!!!

They are fully legal in most states, providing the buyer is willing to jump through several unconstitutional legal hurdles.

My reaction to this $hit piece?
I will obtain at least one more NFA item today!

I could easily write the rejoinder to this seditionist drivel, but ther is no point, he clearly has an irration and closed mind.

For a genuinly educational experiance regards NFA items peruse http://www.nfaoa.org

THe NFA of 1934 requires registration, a permit, and a transfer tax. It does not preclude the average citizen from legally owning fully automatic weapons. They are realtively expensive, though.

***automatic weapons have been banned in the usa for decades.***

Nope sorry, they are not "banned" in the USA.

Full auto firearms are Class III weapons and are legal by Federal law. It's with some of the 50 states that 'banning' occurs.

Now what one has to do and the cost involved in order to get that Class III License (transfer stamp actually) from our buddies at BATFE is another matter, but none the less they are legal.

I could look in my 'purple book' (this year's color) of Laws & Regs but I'm too lazy.

Automatic weapons are not 'banned.' A citizen can own an automatic weapon if he/she pays the tax (about $300). Additionally, he/she must apply for the stamp which requires background checks, criminal checks, signoff on the application by a local law enforcement official(i.e., sheriff, etc.). A lot to go through, but they are not 'banned.'

No, but ownership does require an extra tax be paid.

Actually, just pay a Federal "Fee" and one can legally own a full auto, if the resident's state does not outlaw it. Fer example, Oregon has no restrictions on full autos. (Drives our liberals nuts)

Wrong.

Automatic weapons have been "controlled" through taxation through the BATFE via the 1928 National Firearms Act. For $200, a individual or corporation can recieve a federal tax stamp authorizing maintaining an automatic weapon. (Subject to state and local laws and successful background checks.)

Automatics, so long as they were not manufactured after 1986, are legal to own. It was just a little gun ban by Reagan.

No they haven't it is just rather expensive & involved process to acquire one legally . Requiring several levels of background checks from the state & federal govt, written permission from the chief law enforcement official in your locality, $200.00 transfer tax to transfer the ownership of the weapon from the NFA class 3 dealer to you, also a $1000.00 license that is only good for 1 year then it drops down to a couple hundred dollars annually IIRC. That doesn't include the price of the weapon which can be in the 5 figure range very easily.
