- Ed Meese III, U.S. Attorney General, Reagan Administration

"It was absolutely exhilarating. It was the greatest time to be alive ever, for sure."

- Charles Kaiser, Author/Historian

As I remember, the Russians were still key players at that time - during the final days of Desert Storm. They wanted to preserve their ally - Iraq - and were influential in keeping us from destroying the fleeing Republican Guard near Basra.

I was an Air Force ammo troop at the time in Saudi Arabia.... it was never an objective to take over Iraq.. but at the amazing collapse of the Iraqi Army, some Generals thought it was not a bad idea. Colin Powel put an end to that talk.

I was born in the mid-60's. My parents mistakenly left me in the living room when the news was on (I must've been about 4); the media must have turned against the war by then (I confess I don't know when that happened) and they were showing graphic images.

I have, burned into my brain, images of a graphic helicopter crash complete with charred human remains. I can see it as clearly today as I did then. Mom came into the room and quickly changed the channel.

That whole mentality continued until the mid-70's. I thought my babysitters were nuts...jeans with peace signs sewn on them....total goofballs. My third grade teacher even had a "music break" during the day, where we listened to anti-war songs.

I have always resented growing up following so immediately behind them...because they completely destroy everything that they touch.

Please learn about what you talk about,m BEFORE you talk about them!

Suit suits with a reet pleat were late '30s and through the '40s. They weren't worn in the '50s.

Well good for you! See how obvious the MSM can be? Even a pot smoking teen can see through them!

Well, it was only CNN on cable back then... and the weed was pretty weak.

Things happened at different times, in different places on this country.

That is true.

I know. Those east coast liberals also inlclude Gray Davis.

Your right! Boxer and Davis were both not from Cal. Got rid of one. Few more to go.

There was soft porn in the '60s and HARD porn as well. The Blue Laws banning the importation of what was deemed OBSCEN LITERATURE, fell in the late '50s. Playboy opened the floodgates of soft porn, in the early '50s.

HAIR, with fill frontal nudity, was on Broadway, in the mid '60s and the costumes for CABERET were very "racy" for the time. So was the abortion and covert homosexuality.

Never been to 42nd street in N.Y.C. I take it. Until it's Disneyfication, in the '90s, I never ever thought that that area would be free of hookers and pimps and peep shows and live sex acts show and drug dealers. And in truth, that area had been that way from the '50s onwards.

"Street people"? They've always and ever been there, in every major and a lot of minor cities. Heck, at the turn of the 20th century, hookers from the Tenderloin, used to proposition one of my Great Uncles by marriage, on his way to and from grammar school!

Get back to me, when you know more history, than just your immediate neighborhood, when you were a child.

"We just stumbled around in the dark until the Reagan era. Hey, we couldn't stop smiling for an entire week when he was elected."

How true. Maybe even longer, lol! : )

I'm sorry the sleaze from your area of expertise has managed to eventually infect the rest of the country. It really was quite pleasant during the early sixties in most areas of California.

Until the lib east coasters invaded.

He was wrong!

I lived through them, some as an adult and I remember every single minute of them.

Hmmm... did not know. What are their financial backgrounds? I assume they lived in a log cabin at some point...

The MSM did that, to aid and abet our enemies...the stinking Commies. They thought that if they brought the Nam War into everyone's living room/kitchen/bedroom, then most people, never having been in a war, would be shocked and become anti-war whackos. And it sort of worked.

You can blame Dan Rather for a lot of that; but the other two nightly news channels did much of the same thing, starting in '68!

I'm so sorry that you had to live through that, as such a little child.

The most damaging thing about the 1960's is the academia, media and political elite it bred which are nostalgic for the radical leftism of the 1960's.

Yes, it is.

The "FREE SPEECH MOVEMENT" started in Berkley, Cal,in '63-'64, but didn't really reach N.Y.C, until '69, or so.

No leadership. Unless one counts Timmy Leary, The Smothers Brothers, Eugene McCarthy and The Chicago Seven.

You forgot Lyndon Johnson.

California had it's own areas, where this stuff raged; some of it far earlier than it ever did, on New York.

We now have housewifes and teenagers in middle America that do what Charlie Manson and his gang did, but much worse!

Yes. Only now it doesn't make the nightly news, and if it did, nobody would care.
