A MAN who impersonated a Communist Party official was among at least 26 people executed ahead of China's October 1 National Day holiday.
China, which executes more people a year than the rest of the world combined, often puts to death a large number of convicted felons in the days ahead of National Day and other holidays.
According to an announcement posted on the Beijing Intermediate People's Court website today, Cao Zhongwu was executed on September 13 for impersonating a Communist Party official and forging documents leading to some 7.03 million yuan ($1.14 million) in ill-gotten gains.
"The case has shaken Zhongnanhai," the court said, referring to the residential compound in central Beijing where the top communist leadership resides.
Besides forging his party membership, Cao was also convicted of forging documents that certified him as a "top level economics official" and false academic records, the court said.
Using his forged documents, Cao, 47, extorted public funds and received large bribes in criminal activity largely committed in Beijing.
Also executed today were three convicted drug dealers in northern Shaanxi province convicted of trafficking heroin, Xinhua news agency said.
Meanwhile, the Supreme People's Court Daily said a hit-and-run driver named Zhu Lin was executed recently in Anhui province for premeditated murder when he refused to take the victim to hospital. The victim later died.
The executions come after Supreme Court Vice President Wan Exiang told state press yesterday that China would set up new courts to review death sentences after a series of wrongful executions came to light in recent months.

Being a healthy tissue-match for a party member is a capital
offense in China. But fear not, your organs won't be wasted.

Actually it makes sense and is a good idea. Ridding the society of bad garbage could indeed be considered a boon and a holiday gift. They would not be keeping a mumia in long-term storage, that's for sure.
